I was reading Gofirstclass' post on the economy and political situation in the USA and how it is perceived to be a detriment to european boat sales.

I almost did a hijack, by mistake, but recalled his plea about politics in the original post so I thought I'd just make my statement here.

I was watching Judge Jenine(?) on Fox last night. Did you know that it is perfectly legal for the politicians, both sides, to use their inside info to buy/sell stocks at great profits? An author, I think the book is "Throw them all out", spelled out how some of these DB's would write laws then bet the stocks up/down a few days before they were enacted. Same thing with land purchases. A few of them bought land then earmarked improvements to that area to increase their market value. They then sell at great profit!!!
Companies also offer IPO's, I think Pelosi was the example, in lieu of bribes. Again apparently totally legal!! WTF???

I was really apalled when I saw that last night and I feel a revolt coming, and I'm not talking about an occupy wall street style either!

Indeed.....and if I recall...they just voted to keep it that way.......

White wigs and red coats now occupy Washington.....pretty obvious now, Mike

Did I detect a note of suprise in your post?

I heard about the book on late night talk radio. The book sounds interesting but would probably piss me off even more. The problem with "throwing them all out" is that the only way we are allowed to do that is by replacing them with someone else. You'll be hard pressed to find someone who will take the job and not take advantage of the perks set up by their predecessor.

Your complaints are at the heart of issues the occupy movement wants to have addressed. Just curious as to what style of "revolt" you were referring to.

NO they are not. I have not heard one call for that from the "occupy" crowd. Could you cite a report with a source within the "occupy" framework? (Not a pundit) Many TEA party folks carried signs calling for term limits, you can check it out in the news video. The "occupy" group has no coherent plan and many pundits and politicians use them as a blank canvas for their agenda. MM

I've never heard any detailed OWS objectives. I think because they don't know what they want. But it's interesting they leave this unofficial list up on their site, it's a doozy http://occupywallst.org/forum/proposed-list-of-ows-demands/

That list is soo goood it needs to be posted here, Woody.

"Repeal the Taft-Hartley Act. Unionize ALL workers immediately.
Raise the minimum wage immediately to $18/hr. Create a maximum wage of $90/hr to eliminate inequality.
Institute a 6 hour workday, and 6 weeks of paid vacation.
Institute a moratorium on all foreclosures and layoffs immediately.
Repeal racist and xenophobic English-only laws.
Open the borders to all immigrants, legal or illegal. Offer immediate, unconditional amnesty, to all undocumented residents of the US.
Create a single-payer, universal health care system.
Pass stricter campaign finance reform laws. Ban all private donations. All campaigns will receive equal funding, provided by the taxpayers.
Institute a negative income tax, and tax the very rich at rates up to 90%.
Pass far stricter environmental protection and animal rights laws.
Allow workers to elect their supervisors.
Lower the retirement age to 55. Increase Social Security benefits.
Create a 5% annual wealth tax for the very rich.
Ban the private ownership of land.
Make homeschooling illegal. Religious fanatics use it to feed their children propaganda.
Reduce the age of majority to 16.
Abolish the death penalty and life in prison. We call for the immediate release of all death row inmates from death row and transferred to regular prisons.
Release all political prisoners immediately.
Immediate withdrawal from Iraq and Afghanistan.
Abolish the debt limit.
Ban private gun ownership.
Strengthen the separation of church and state.
Immediate debt forgiveness for all.
End the 'War on Drugs'"

At least they figured out how to pay for all the pie in the sky: "Abolish the debt limit."

Is this where Ricky and his friends have been getting their post material? MM

Wow!! What a list! I wonder if this has been tried before..hmmmmm

Un freakin real.

I wish they would come set up in my town. In fact, I'll pay for the food, tents, a P.A. system, an audience with the mayor, local & regional news coverage. Whatever you want.

"Ya'll Come on down & see us". Unlike some big cities, we actually give a damn about what takes place in our town. When the need arises, we quickly take any needed corrective actions without spending a single tax dollar.

Yes, I was surprised. I hear about limits on campaign contributions, lobbyists and the like. Bribes are obviously illegal in the old fashioned sense of the word. This is obviously a new, improved version of a bribe!!! This crap is totally unacceptable!! Again I am appalled at this practice and cannot fathom how this became legal. These a-holes are amassing great wealth very rapidly and we are PAYING them to do it. Un-f*#king real!!!
As far as finding people to replace them? No problem!! How about you? Me? Monaco Mike? Anyone of us in this forum would do a better job and the first thing would be to get rid of these bullsh!t laws that let the politicians pilfer money. I'm mad as hell and I'm not gonna take it anymore!!

Ricky,

The "Occupiers" were not a coherent group as Mike pointed out. I watch the news all the time and had trouble figuring out what they wanted. I still don't fully understand. From what I gathered they are mad at the 1% that have most of the wealth in this country. That's fine but, why are they mad at them and what do they propose to change it? Sit, unshowered, in a park for a few weeks? Did these clowns even have jobs? How do you get off indefinitely to sit in a park? How are you still able to pay your bills during this time of protest? I am very skeptical of that movement. Sorry if you were invested in this movement but, it should have been better organized with a single, succinct message.
The revolt I'm talking about is whatever is necessary to take back our government and give it back to the people. It's amazing how we can go around the world ousting regimes to replace them with some version of democracy when ours is so broken. The revolutionary war was probably founded on the exact feelings of frustration and powerless-ness we all are experiencing today!!

PS: Here is what I found at least to be wikipedia's view of the "Occupy" movement. Too bad the fruitloops that made it onto the evening news (All Channels) were not as coherent as this.

Occupy Wall Street (OWS) is an ongoing series of demonstrations initiated by the Canadian activist group Adbusters which began September 17, 2011 in Zuccotti Park, located in New York City's Wall Street financial district. The protests are against social and economic inequality, high unemployment, greed, as well as corruption, and the undue influence of corporations—particularly that of the financial services sector—on government. The protesters' slogan We are the 99% refers to the growing difference in wealth in the U.S. between the wealthiest 1% and the rest of the population.

Gonna agree with Todd and Mike here.

From what I see, there is a the "occupy" movement is NOT coherent, and there is no "platform". Just a general disgust with antics epitomized by the first few posts in this thread.

It speaks volumes that neither party is backing a simply "no insider trading" rule for elected representatives.

It just makes people think "they" are just screwing with us, and all the "right" vs. "left" divisions we argue about are just smoke screen for the real business of Washington.

An additional problem besides the elected Washington insiders, and possibly worse, is the permanet Washington establishment. Each congressman has 14 staffers and each senator 34 has staffers on average. When elected they usually have one or two close advisors they take to Washington with them, once they get there they are ???? (given, assigned, suggested, etc.) the rest. These "ruling class experts way out number the "clean" folks we elect and have far more influence than we will ever know. MM

Do you have any idea how to fix this problem?

I think I have a link to a more official list at home. I'll post it if I still have it after work tonight. If I remember correctly, it included campaign finance reform and term limits.

Mike...How do we go about changing what's wrong in Washington? I want to hear your ideas.

Ricky,
I fear that a revolution is the only thing that will work at this point. I don't see it happening anytime soon but I think it will come at some point since these eggheads can't seem to get out of their own way. Sitting in a park indefinitely while the news programs show snippets of fist fights, stoned out potheads and the likes actually HURTS the movement of truly concerned citizens. We could try a million man march or something of the like but, I fear that still won't get it done. These greedy SOB's are too far entrenched in D.C. and will not relinquish any power or illicit subsidies that they have awarded themselves without some sort of DRASTIC measures. Maybe some natural disaster will wipe the slate clean down there so we can start anew. I am not professing anything violent here, just expressing my continued despair as it relates to our governing faction. I really have no compassion at this point for these crooks and would welcome a new-
Government of the people, by the people, for the people, that shall not perish from the Earth.
-Abraham Lincoln

Do you have any legitamite suggestions on this Ricky? I am all ears.
