Question, removing old retired decals on entire vessel I know to use a heat gun etc…The polish is my concern, before I have used 3M something or another; anyway what is a good product to use? Looking to strip, and buff to her original beauty. In placement with all new decal and etc.. Thanks

If you search Polishing, waxing, etc. there are tons and tons of threads including this one. I learned quite a bit between some brands that others used. I've used SeaPower cleaner wax for years with great results, but have been trying some of the others mentioned in that thread with good results.

As Todd stated there is alot of great information about this subject if you do a search. I have been using Yacht Brite Buff Magic for a few years works great

If you are not compulsive about 10 step processes, I've found that 3m Finesse II followed by some Flagship works very well. I apply both with clean and different wool pads on a heavy duty rotary polisher. When done, I throw the pads in the washer on the gentle cycle and they come out looking like new ones. (just like the boat)

I've removed quite a few numbers and names off of boats with the heat gun method. I've used the orange or goo bgone afterwards to remove any excess glue and both have worked fine. Your biggest issue is what the gel looks like underneath. I'm posting my link to the buffing thread that will give you step-by-step instructions, but be prepared that no matter what you use, sometimes light wetsanding has to be done to blend the area. On newer boats buffing alone has done the job, but being an aged boat it's hard too say without seeing.
