I would never change a Zeus prop underwater, I'd get towed to haul out.How do you get under there to change props on the water?

I was wondering if you kept scuba gear along with the extra props.I would never change a Zeus prop underwater, I'd get towed to haul out.
I've got one of these in the dingy. Works great for fun explorations or bottom/prop inspections.I was wondering if you kept scuba gear along with the extra props.

It’s not as scary as it seems as long as the water is deep enough. You guys are braver than me, but I don't ever plan to get under my boat unless it's on land!
and WARM enough!!!It’s not as scary as it seems as long as the water is deep enough.
Just pee in your suit!and WARM enough!!!
The Cummins mechanic was very impressed and excited at the prospect of this becoming a solution he could now recommend to other clients in the same position.
I know about those updated skegs but I'm still dubious and have PTSD from that Labor Day weekend lost. When the props turn they come within about .75 inch of the skegs and those things are some serious hunks of metal. Maybe it was prop failure, but when I saw that skeg missing and the other side hanging on by a thread.....well let's say I didn't think it was coincidence. I grabbed the port skeg and wripped it off and never went back to them.
Heck, look at Volvo IPS pods, those props are forward facing and totally exposed and that's becoming the pod of the future. Makes you wonder why they even have a skeg, with it being aft of the props. And ZF pods for Yanmars have no skeg at all.
Love my 470. Going on my 8th season with it so that alone should say something. Longest I’ve ever owned a boat by 2X. Dislike canvas and not having sliding glass door but I do like driving with the aft wide open. I added custom 90 degree down canvas which keeps heat and a/c in when needed and with great aft visibility; the factory canvas offers terrible visibility. Dislike the fact the helm seats don’t swivel like they do on the 48/50 and 510. Like the aft sunpad with the backrests that swing open, we use it a lot. She handles great, can turn 180 degrees in 2 boat-lengths. You can see the horizon out the sunroof window and the engines don’t give up RPM in the meantime. I added the hydraulic swim platform, but I suggest buying one with it already. I ditched the dinghy and now carry a Yamaha VX on it.James. How do you like your 470? Considering upgrading. Positives and Negatives? Also how has your experience with Zeuss drives been in terms of reliability? Thanks!
Per my previous post, Cummins came today to lower both my pods and reseal all seals on my upper pods as well as the king pin plates. All looked great to him. He resealed them, re-hung them and also installed my newly ceramic-coated prop shafts with new seals. All is back together and the boat is ready to launch. Some photos of the day.

Outer shaft coated. (The top is just electrical tape to protect the threads in shipping)

This is one of the pods in a custom made lift. He locks it into place and wheels it away from boat.

And here's everything all put back together. Note the green film on outside of pod. That's gear lube leaking out from the top, which is why I had them resealed.

Here’s photo. I was on my way to a 3 day weekend for Labor Day. Major bummer. I now carry a pair spare props. View attachment 101136
The trouble is, how would I prove it was non-impact?If your prop blade fell off from non impact Mercury will cover a new set from a casting issue. If it was from impact then you are out of luck.
The fracture will prove itThe trouble is, how would I prove it was non-impact?
The skeg on the Volvo pod extends well below the prop arc. So there is a solid hunk of metal that is going to contact the bottom well before the prop.

I suppose it also provides some small "rudder" effect, and if we really want to overthink it there may also be some tip turbulence mitigation (re passenger aircraft with vertical winglet tips).
