My first boat. 1978 SRV-197
It was my maiden voyage, and I wasn't getting fuel to carb after about 5 minutes on the water. Something had plugged my fuel line from tank to pump. Old gas? Maybe some bits of rubber from the bulkhead seal on the gas tank. . I was able to disconnect at pump and blow into fuel line. Something gave way cleared the line. Unfortunately whatever was plugging the line is still in my gas tank. Not sure what to do about it.

If that’s an old tank in there, ethanol is the problem.

It’s breaking down the varnish and deposits in the tank and sending them down the fuel line.

Sorry to tell you but you are probably going to have to replace the tank.

OR......

Try some new fuel line. The old might be weak and collapsing on itself.

Either way you have to do some additional inspections to rule out tank, hoses or both.

Try this first. Ethanol will deteriorate the fuel line from the inside - even an A1 rated line. Little bits of it will start start making their way into the fuel system. Happened on my boat, fuel filter looked like pepper sprinkles in it. Also, at higher RPM's the engine started just quitting like it was out of gas - a few minutes and it would start up and run fine for awhile. I ended up replace all of my fuel lines - feed line was the worst, but I replaced the fill and vent lines also.

Thanks, I actually just purchased some new line. Just waiting for some cooperative weather to go and install.... I hope it's ust old gas and a couple bottles of seafoam or gummout will help. I have an endoscope and plan on looking in the tank when I get the chance.

Don't forget to look at your fuel vent as well.

If everything else checks out...... try running the boat with the fuel cap loose or off and see if that allows the boat to run better. If it does then there's some crap or bugs in your vent.
