For a while i could just jiggle the shifter until one of the engines will start, i figured it's probably the nuetral safety, but i think it's not now. I've been jumping the solinoid to start the engine but it sparks huge so i never know if i'll live another day that way, I jumped the nuetral safety on the (inboard) tranny and it doesn't help, what i think it is, is the little relay that sits just above the fuel/water seperator, I'm gonna try and replace that but doe's anyone know about this sort of problem? It's very scary, especially after taking on fuel, thanks.. I'll pm my cell number if anyone can help please, i'm on a long trip and it's driving me nuts

you mention transmission so i`m guessing inboard. jumping the neutral safety while the key is turned to start will allow motor to crank.
If turning the key only has a click, suspect the slave solenoid . the slave is fired by the key, and then fires the main starter solenoid.
jumping the 2 larger wires(yellow red ,red purple) will make the main starter solenoid operate. the smaller yellow/red comes from the key in "start" position and the small black is ground.a good ground is necessary for the solenoid to operate the relay.
pm your cell if you need more

thanks guys, i did test the switch on the tranny by bypassing it, then when i turned the key, it would click the slave solinoid in forward and reverse, so i don't think it's the switch on the tranny, i do believe it is the slave solinod, I'll try jumpering it tomorrow, or testing with a meter or just replacing it, i noticed the other engine has had it's slave already replaced, could be connections just need cleaning too,

I got it, i must have said, "oh my god" fifty times by now, ohh, replacing that slave solinoid is now my most un wanted thing to do on the 390, between the gas tank and on top of the fuel/water seperator is the slave solinoid, i'm sure there will be a few small black and blue marks on me, wow, yesteday i spent a few hours replacing the starter solinoid and had no luck, but if you have that very common jiggle the shifter before it will start, it could very well be that little bugger, only cost about $25, but is very important and a bit of a pain to replace, thanks again, this is too good
