Plasma TV, what brand...

I stuck with Panasonic because I like having remotes the same. I HATE having 5 different manufacturers remotes... If I can't find the remote in my office, I go steal the one out of the kid's playroom... but that's a minor point I guess.

If you had different brands, the kids couldn't steal the remote from your office for the TV in the playroom. Just a thought.

Mike, you're probably right. You are closer to the media dogs than I am. Still not sure people see the value in buying HD source when an SD DVD doesn't look awful to them.

Best regards,
Frank

We have a 57" DLP that we bought a little over a year ago and pretty pleased with the picture and we are using rabbit ears, but this week, we are biting the bullet and getting direct TV. Dont think ive ever watched a movie in Blue-ray. I dont really know what the difference is between that and a regular disc player

Doug, let us know what you decided on. I hear there are supposed to be some good deals to be had after the holiday and around super bowl time.
Also I think that is when the next generation sets from various manufacturers are coming out.
I know Sony is launching the 240hz refresh rate so many retailers will probably be looking to dump the 120hz Bravia XBR for a great price.
Either way, good luck shopping

I know that, just wasn't sure if he was dead set on a plasma.

After researching a bit and speaking to people, and having a few a/v rental companies on hand to talk to, we decided LCD would be a better fit.

I really like the one we just got, LG70. It is 1080p

Definitely use the hdmi cables for hd from cable box to tv, and especially for gaming if youre into that. We have the ps3 hooked up with optical surround, and we have been playing a lot of games lately.

Cant wait to go home tonight and finish Drake's fortune.

I have a Panasonic Plasma, LG LCD and a Samsung DLP. The LG has been sent back twice under warranty because the picture went completely out. The Panasonic and Samsung have both been great.

Make sure to check out the TV's power consumption. There are some big differences model to model.

I have a 58 Panasonic Plasma (Panasonic TH-58PX600U) in my family room and noticed the heat that it was throwing off and my electic bill also went up about $30 ro $40 a month since buying the TV. I bought a device to measure power usage (http://www.amazon.com/P3-International-P4400-Electricity-Monitor/dp/B00009MDBU) and I measured the TV with my stereo and Xbox running and everything was drawing over 8 amps. The TV was drawing over 6 amps depending what was on. (bright outdoor pictures draw more amps) I also learned that High Def channels actually draw more power. I was switching between standard def news channels and high def news channels (same program) and the high def was drawing about 3/4 more amps.

I am very happy with my 58 1080i panasonic. Great picture and it has a cable card, so I dont need a cable box. I swithed to FIOS last year and the picture quailty is noticably better than the compressed HI-Def channels that I was getting from Cable Vison

I also have a 43 Toshiba plasma that I paid over $3300 for in 2006 and it broke in the first month of ownership. 6th Ave wouldnt exchange it, I had to send it out for repairs. Took 4 weeks. The remote started acting up a few months ago and I had to replace that as well. I wouldnt recommend Toshiba.
