No boat....no engines
Those of you that have seen my posts in the past might know that I sold my 340 DA a year ago last January. We were going to wait several years and buy a larger boat that could be a full-time live aboard at retirement in a few years. Sadly, Sea Ray does not make anything that fits this bill and certainly nothing that would be in my budget. So after a couple of eye opening family events we asked ourselves what we were waiting for.

Not having a boat for more than a year was brutal but I constantly cruised YachtWorld thinking something might look attractive. Something did. I have been reluctant to reveal what I purchased to this forum as it is not a Sea Ray and I recall the occasional snootiness of us Sea Ray owners towards those with lesser boats. (No reprimands please, I included myself) But I have missed this forum and have lurked occasionally but I thought it was time to show my hand.

We bought a 1984 Kha Shing 50' CPMY. It is a Taiwan built boat from the same yard as Grand banks, Ocean Alexander and many other fine vessels. This boat was built in the early days of fiberglass before anyone was confident of 'glass as suitable material for boats therefore it is a tank. It has twin 3208, 375 hp Cats with 2100 hours, new gennie, 4 year old Raymarine networked electronics package, stabilizers and many more amenities.

But it's not fast....12-13 knots at cruise and 16-17 WOT. That's taking some getting used to. I know....it's about the journey, blah, blah, blah. But I'm getting used to it. Below are a few pics.

My wife is loving the windows and the space is incredible. And the price was unbelievable. The PO had moved out of state and was very motivated. We still love Sea Rays but for this time in our lives this works better.

Beautiful Motor Yacht. Looks like the PO took care of her. Absolutley love the woodwork. Hope you have many great adventures on her. I looked at a THai vessel once it was called a Sunkyong. No one had ever heard of these things and was very hard to compare a value to it since they were so rare. It was also built like a tank. Very sturdy boat.

I like it , a lot , would you like me to send you a Sea Ray decal?

That boat is a gorgeous. Congrat. The interior looks brand new. Enjoy and welcome back to boating.

I would have trouble buying any boat with "Sunk" anywhere in the name

Welcome back. Its not all about the boat but the journys taken. I like the trawler style yachts. Its not a sea ray but I vote to keep ya! Thanks for sharing with us and happy boating.

Love it. You could install a bowling alley on that huge aft deck!

That is a gorgeous vessel. Congrats!!

Great looking boat and it sure looks like it was very well maintained. Share as many pics as you'd like.

While it may not be a Sea Ray I'm sure it has a lot of Sea Ray owners jealous about your new live-aboard lifestyle. Me being one!

Great looking boat! Congrats & enjoy!!!

Thanks but no on the decal but you gave me an idea. I have one of those Sea Ray "Custom Made For...." plaques that is blank. I think I will have engraved and stick it near the dinette. That will confuse folks.

Thanks to all of you for your comments. This is why I've missed this forum. You are great.

The biggest challenge I am having is learning all of the systems on this boat. There is 2-3 of everything. But on the plus side, after having an engine room with barely one place to stand I now have one with 54" of head room and actual walk through space between the engines. The fuel tanks (300 gal each) are outboard of the engines but with a 15' beam I can still get to the far side of the engines.

You have encouraged me to keep posting. I'll get more pics up as I get them taken.

Thanks again.

Very nice sir...congrats on your "new to U" boat it looks very nice and I to me it looks capable of "live aboard".. compaired to my 280 anyway...
