I have a 1988 Searay Sundancer with fresh water cooling. Near the end of the summer, I noticed steam coming out the starboard engine. Not a lot, but some and the engine was running hotter. I did have to add antifreeze to the heat exchanger a couple of time this summer. I read somewhere that the heat exchanger should have the end caps removed and a wire brush send down though the capillaries to remove and build up annually.

I pulled the starboard engine one off today and found that the heat exchanger had rust and antifreeze come out. The hose that goes to the engine block was full of water, not antifreeze as the port side had. I pumped out lots of water, and threw some antifreeze into the bock.

I looked for about 1/2 hour and could not find any petcock to drain the block. Should there be some petcocks or is there a pipe plug that I am missing?

I did see on one of the threads for the newer 454 I/O there are 4 petcocks or plugs on either side. Would that be the same on the older engines?

Thanks, I was not sure since the thread talks about I/O where I have an inboard. Ok, next weekend I spend the time to find them. It was much easier on my other boat with a single engine and lots of room to work with.
