my old 84 268,only performes with small load ,, the rating is for 10 persons,, ,and i can turn a 15X17 prop to 4000 rpm, but just barely comes onto plane,, with 4 full size adults 3 children,, might get a 14 MPH cruise at 3800 RPM,, with this load, its a sled, with just me and my women,, she performes great!

That is worse than what I use to get with my 79 260. It sounds like you may have a dirty bottom or be over weight.

(the boat, not you :smt001)

You are not the first 268 owner to complain about performance on this site...I'm guessing you have a 5.7 V8 ?

Your screen name is curious. The first year for the 268 was 1986.

yes the bottom does have needs to be blasted , its pretty rough, the engine only has about 150 hrs since rebuild, she rides and runs smooth,,but performes poorly, with full load,

It might be rated for 10 people but I would think that means static for flotation, not on plane. I have an 82 SXL 260 and it's a heavy boat. I've got a BBC, and it feels about right. Not rocket but does do well. The 5.7L 260 is not enough.

I really love my boat,, size is great, this is my first boat bought is 7 years ago,, its a great smooth ride, but a bit heavy for the 5.7 alpha,,it needs the torqe of a big block and the strength of a bravo,..i just dont understand why Sea Ray allowed the alpha in this boat,?

The Bravo's didn't exist until '88 or '89. The small block does have a hard time in that boat.

By the way, my '83 is the same minus a few small touches. The boat does respond well to a big block and bravo combo. A 502 does particularly well.

Oh, FWIW, the hull measures 26'3" in length with an 8' beam.
