Im wondering if anyone here has installed the Perfect Pass on their boat themselves. I got a quote from my dealer for $2100 for parts and labor minus taxes and that seems way too high to me. The Star Gazer Wake Edition uses GPS instead of a paddlewheel and is only $1195. I believe I can install this myself and save $1000 but would like to hear from anyone who has done this install before and has tips and suggestions. If there is a thread on this already, please point me to it, I could not find it in the search. Thanks in advance. :smt001

No one?

I guess I'll be the guinea pig and do it first and report how it went. I just got off the phone with them and it sounds like a fairly simple install and no holes to drill in my boat :smt001 I got the Wake Edition with GPS, cant wait to see how it works.

I tried what one of the other guys suggested was the perfect pass, but when I tried it on a girl, I still got my face slapped. Hope your luck is better.

Best regards,

You've been married too long!

The device which Kenny seeks like like cruise control for boats. When a powerful slalom skier is working hard, the boat can slow down and speed up and the skier digs in for his turns and then makes his straight runs. The speed control works to ensure that the speed is constant without surges or sags.

Best regards,
Frank

Well, I know what it is, but, have always been a fan of a good driver who's watching those things.

I suppose it takes one element out of the way for the driver, but that's a lot of dough and potential problems down the line, making me wonder why he really wants it.

If I boarded more I would think about this. My wife tries but she is not the best at speed changes.

How does the perfect pass control the speed? Are the 2008 boats controlled by electronics instead of a cable for a gas pedal?

Exactly why Im getting it. My wife really tries but cannot hold a constant speed. She either goes Mach 4 or turtle slow. She stresses alot about it and hates to pull us. This would make it easier on anyone who is driving, me included. Ive ridden in friends boats who have it and it works great. I didnt know it was an option when I bought my boat, or I would've had them add it them.

I know how it works and what all its suppoed to do, I was just asking if anyone else had installed it themselves. Tips and other things to look out for beforehand are always nice.

That makes sense. I've always had my cousin with me when we have been out boarding or waterskiing, so we know how each other like it. I suppose if you can tell the Admiral, to "Press this" or whatever when your up, that would be cool.

This will relieve alot of stress on her. She has seen how it worked in my friends boat and really liked it. The money is really secondary if this will give her peace of mind and more confidence. Its almost gotten to the point that she wont drive. Its her first season to drive a boat, so anything I can do to help, Im willing to do.

I know exactly what you mean. It will be worth every penny.

Finally had the time to install this today. Was pretty simple and took me about 1.5 hours to do. I could have done it in less time but I took my time and it turned out great. Did all the tests to make sure its working properly and had to adjust the linkage a tad, other than that it seems to be working fine. Going to the lake tommorrow to give it a test, will give a report after I get back :smt001

We have it on our 230 Select. I love it. It really helps when im being pulled and like your wife, mine either runs wide open or like a turtle. I hate screaming at her, so PP is perfect. Before I jump in the water w/ my board. I turn PP on, set the MPH setting to about 18 and off we go... Perfect every time. The only time It didnt seem to work very well was when my boat was loaded w/ 8 people. Seemed to work erraticlly.. Probably because of the boat load...

Sorry I havent posted an update.

First trip, we had total of 8 in the boat. The perfect pass worked, but did alot of surging. After playing around with the KdW settings and setting it to a higher # it worked flawlessly. Second trip out I reset the KdW to the factory setting of 80 since we only had 4 in the boat. Never had a problem with the Perfect Pass. Sure is nice to ride at a set speed now, and no more yelling at my wife for Mach 4 speeds or driving like a turtle LOL

sdl22 Im not sure which version you have, but look and see if it has KdW settings. You set the number higher to compensate for higher boat loads. It sure made a difference on my first trip.

Overall Im very happy with the system and glad I installed it myself, I not only saved alot of money, but I know how its all hooked up and how its supposed to work. :smt001

Soon all tournament boats will only use the GPS system. Perfectpass will soon be a Dinosaur. Plus with the perfect pass u have to have magnets in the course.

The Perfect Pass I installed is GPS based and doesnt use a paddlewheel. I did read something about magnets in the Slalom mode, but since we dont do tournaments or any serious slalom skiing I doubt I'll ever even use that mode. For wakeboarding it sure has been a blessing and I used it this past weekend when we cruised down the lake.
