Hello all,

I’ve just purchased a used ‘96 270 Sundancer and it’s missing the deck table and the aft bench bottom. Does anyone know of a source for replacement ones? Or if you have one could you share some photos of the aft bench that would be a decent reference for me to fabricate a replacement one from please.

You can check floundponder (they are a sponsor here I think). Short of that, some things like a table would be easier to fab yourself than to try to find available from the original manufacturer.

amazon has lots of tables reasonably priced but it would be nice to know the part number see above post
pn 759514 270 DA table is my guess as far as the bench seat good luck FP may have something but I have been looking for a seat leg for a year now and no luck. if you have boat boneyard nearby would be a good place to look

That removable rear seat bench would be a highly specialized item that would not be easy to fabricate. It was molded fiberglass.

This is it with the cushion on. The boat you have was made from 1994 through 1997 and called a 270 Sundancer. In 1998 and 1999 it was called a 270 SE.

My searching did not reveal any results for a seat base in Google images. Although it may appear so on the boat, your boat likely never had one that folded down. Although I have seen a few for sale that did have a seat that folded down.

I also would suggest in the future writing a clearer thread header. For this particular thread I would suggest “looking for 1996 270 Sundancer rear seat base”.

I did find the part numbers in the manual but those numbers are pretty much useless if there isn’t anywhere to order them from. Does anyone know where to order parts like these from for an older boat? I’m certain I’ll need to source other parts in the future too.

There are no boat boneyards in my area. I live in Hawaii so everything has to be shipped from elsewhere.

I’m also quite handy and am a minimally competent as a carpenter, welder, mechanic, and tailor. So, since I doubt I’d ever be able to find an original part I’d like to think if I could see some detailed images of the originals including how exactly it mounted in the boat I might be able to build a reasonable facsimile of the originals.

If u have carpentry and tailoring skills, you could make whatever you need. Aside from making a mold for a full composite base (time consuming and difficult), you can just make a template out of cardboard. Transfer that to exterior epoxied plywood or starboard. Get some marine foam, marine upholstery, and bonded thread, pick a seem type and stitch it together. Stretch and staple it to the seat base.

For attachment you can use stainless L brackets secured to the transom and buy or make stainless legs, or use a piano hinge attached to the transom and base, and buy folding stainless legs and a latch.

Or you can pay to have it done, depending on what tools you have, it may be cheaper to have it done.

I really wanted to see if there was either an original new or used part available for sale first or someone could share detailed photos of the factory originals so that I don’t have to reinvent the wheel per say.

It is not that simple. It must have the right hardware to attach to the transom wall, has folding legs, and a channel the table fits in for the sun pad set up.

There is any number of a hundred different ways I could think of to fabricate a folding leg.

If I had to reinvent the wheel and design my own version I would likely mock up the shape to cut the base out of with cardboard and once satisfied with the shape. Use a sheet of the 1/2” pvc board they sell at home depot as the base. Probably laminating two pieces together to give it strength. Then sew a skin for the seat cushion with marine vinyl and staple it down.

There seems to be a strip of some sort of plastic like material with a groove in it on the bulkhead which I believe is part of how it originally mounted. I was thinking a piece of aluminum screwed into the back of the base of the cushion would slide into that and hold the rear. Either that or build a box for it to sit on top of and hinge it to that for extra storage under the aft seat instead. If I don’t permanently mount it down it can easily slide out of the way when I need to get into the engine compartment.

But again, I’d like to find the original part of at all possible or replicate it as engineers smarter than me designed it for this specific boat in the first place.

Yeah, the L portion of my aft seating is just a cushion sitting on a free standing glass box that wedges into the corner of the cockpit, the aft bench folds down and away. It does have a hinge setup that folds in and up a bit.

The free standing piece is nice because if I want to fish, I can leave that at the dock, fold away the aft bench and have an unobstructed cockpit.
