Hello,
I just bought an ‘89 sedan bridge 300. The port engine needs a starter. (I can get it going with the tap of a hammer).

I’m trying to find the right part and had the general question - how do I order parts for this boat?

Is there a parts manual available? Maintenance manual?

I tried sea ray customer service who linked me to the sea ray owners club -but I was unable to find either of these resources.

ive got mercruiser 5.7L engines. No idea if they are original.

Should I pull the old starter and Bring it to a marine supply store? Auto parts store?

I grew up with lake boats but never had to do any wrenching on them so this is all new territory for me.

thanks in advance!

You should never use automotive electrical parts. They aren’t ignition protected. Those are mercury engines not sea ray. You can very easily find the parts from them. Try to find the engine serial numbers and year and models. Also you can have it rebuilt or exchanged if you are in a good marine area. Good luck. Too bad the prior owners didn’t keep and pass on all the original manuals.

There is several ways to go about this. Stevens marine can get you what you want. But expect a wait and at least a 50% mark up. There is a marine shop in Newberg that can help you as he has everything right on his shelf. Again you will be paying a little more. There is two shops in Newport on the south side of the bridge that can get you the parts. Not sure about their mark up as I have not used them. Your only other source is West Marine in Tigard.

Where is home? I might be able to help as I am in Sheridan and travel to Lincoln City and Depot Bay regularly.

A super fast google search turns up these two numbers.

Oem Merc Part # 50-863007A1
Sierra 18-5907

I live in bend and spend every other week over in Newport. You mentioned two places south of the bridge in Newport. Im assuming Newport marine and RV. What’s the other place?

mans thanks for the “don’t use auto parts” comment. That’s the basic info I’m looking for. Thank you

So that means your either coming through Salem or through Eugene? There is not a durn thing in Salem anymore. Eugene I have seen a couple places. As in two. But that has been some time ago and I try to stay out of that place. Too many strange ones there. A quick search turned up a few there.

The other place is Hatfields boat repair.

Yeah, 126 through Eugene. There is a bunch there in Eugene. Or the few in Newport. Price wise I have had great luck with West Marine. If you call in what you need, they can bring it down from N. PDX to Tigard. Stevens is one to stay clear away from. The last parts I got, they were 50% mark up and they had to order. So I paid for them to ship to me. Three weeks later I still had to go pick up. And they kept the $20 shipping for washers and nuts. Clemens doesn't carry parts but they are extremely friendly.

If you need help, let me know. I paid the nephew's boy to change mine. He is over 6' tall and built like a pipe cleaner. He just got in and under the motor and changed it out in 15 minutes.

I took a picture of the starboard engine flame arrestor. Serial number appears to be:
0C 524487 Or maybe
0C 524467

the entire decal is worn off flame arrestor on port engine which is the one that needs the starter.

I noticed on the starboard engine it says engine rotation RH.

does the port engine rotate left? If so - will that affect which starter I should buy?

Any help pointing me to the right part number to purchase would be greatly appreciated.

thanks in advance~

Thanks! This is a great resource. I notice in the description it does say L.H. Rotation.

when ordering other engine parts in the future is it as simple as making sure to look for R.H. or L.H. rotation in the parts description and if the option isn’t listed - then the part should fit either side?

That I'm not sure. Both of mine are the same rotation. But I do have one counter rotating drive (port). And if you look at the lists, the top one of for RH rotation. And is more of a cost. And there is another parts dealer in Newport. Englund down on the other side of the old commercial district has parts. Get the part number you need from that link and call them to see if they have it or can get it. Good prices and they are very friendly.

Oh and looking at getting down there as soon as I clear up some work crap and get the pick up back. Maybe we can meet up and do a cruise. I also need to do the renaming ceremony. So the more the merrier.
