This winter I am going to reverse my anchor rode and while I have the anchor removed I am thinking about painting it. This anchor is steel and looks like it was painted and/or galvanized. Anyone have any suggestions on what to paint it with?

Cold Galvanizing paint. I sand blasted mine and painted it 2 years ago, still looks like new and we drop a hook about 30-40 weekends a year. We anchor in mostly muddy bottom conditions, sand and rocky bottoms may vary your mileage

Cleaned it up with the abrasive roloc discs, then 3 coats of high-solid primer, followed by 4 coats of high-solid Chrome.

It looks good. Not as nice as SS, but no where near the $$ either.

I painted mine last year. After sanding the rusty galvanized finish, I applied two coats of cold galvanizing paint. That simply looked grey so I then put on two coats of aluminum paint. That looked good and just now its looking like it could use another coat. So, I think I'll make this another end-of-season ritual.

If your anchor is galvanized, leave it alone. All replies so far are fresh water boaters so stripping and painting would be OK for them. No finish you can apply at home will hold up to anchoring in saltwater. You'll be rusty after your first drop. For saltwater, its either galvanized or stainless steel. SB

If in saltwater, take your anchor and get it sprayed with Line-X or RhinoLining. I am in both brakish and salt. I used the rattle can bed liner spray and it holds up perfect!

I bought the $199 version 15lb one.Still looks great and I use it in Saltwater.
You will get a few rust spots, but some polish takes them right off.

I took mine to a chrome plater and they declined to do it saying that the chrome plating would not last on an anchor. Astros7: How long have you had yours plated and did you use ordinary chrome plating or tool chrome?
