Mind. Blown! I somehow missed this thread. This winter I painted my vinyl seats to change the 90's gold piping to blue. It came out great, but I had no idea canvas could be painted.

One good coat works best. In areas where I touched up or double coated it was noticeable.

Canvas sails are painted frequently with numbers, etc. My buddy owns a canvas awning shop and he said it is not a problem at all. I used the cheap brushes and cut the bristles to about 1/2 inch length to make them stiff, who he'd brushed the paint deep into the fabric.
After two years I have replaced the entire canvas. Not because I had to from the paint, the plan was just to delay the incurred cost of a full canvas replacement. It could have lasted several more seasons.
