Has anyone painted their 240+ Sea Rays from the white to another color (blue, black, Tan)? If so, was it fairly expensive?

Why would you want to paint beautiful, practical, repairable gel-coat???

I agree the the navy and black hulls look outstanding in the slip or on the trailer, but nothing looks better that a shiny white boat on the water...

we really like the blue and tan bottoms. Are those still considered gel'd or is it paint? Maybe I asked the question wrong?

The colored hulls are gelcoat from the factory. I have never painted a boat but many on here have. Marine paint is expensive but the good stuff will be very durable and hold up to scratches. MM is correct though about the repair -- any deep gouges in paint will not be as easily repaired as gelcoat.

I also agree... white hulls look the best on the water.

I had my 2005 390DA blue hull painted with Awlgrip. My original blue Gelcoat had some general oxidation here and there and few scratches incurred during storm sandy which proved to be all but impossible to really match....to my liking or satisfaction anyways. It isn't cheap. PM me for costing. The results are outstanding and several on this forum have seen her since. Tough to beat Awlgrip in my opinion but it does cost and application and surface prep is everything.

Paint is much easier to repair that gelcoat. In fact, paint is superior to gelcoat in every way. The only reason boats use gelcoat is because it's a cheap mold release. True high-quality boats are painted once they are pulled from the mold. All colors on Formula's are painted with DuPont Imron. It's tough as nails and much more easily matched and repaired.
