Good Evening. I just joined because I am looking at a few Sea Rays as I am upgrading/upsizing this Spring. I thought I'd come to the source for info. :smt038

I currently have a small, older bowrider, and am going to be purchasing a 22-24 ft. cuddy cabin.....mid 80's to about 1990 in the next few months.

I have seen online a 1988 Panchanga 22, absolutely clean, and with the exception of a possible lower unit replacement, looks to be original. 454 CID.

Are there any particular problems with this model? I know all boats have similar problems, especially older models. I also know some have particular quirks....and I thought I'd get a jump on them.

If the dealer (about 100 miles from me) can get the price in the ballpark, I might take a look at it this weekend. I figured on a fairly "safe" first cuddy, but this boat doesn't come along every day......:wow:

I just thought I'd be prepared. I currently have a much smaller boat, and I don't want to be too distracted with all the hoopla of a bigger boat.

Thanks in advance...Ted

Take a look at CIRRHOSISOFTHERIVER’s thread in the Pictures & Videos section on this board. Looks like there might be few guys who can address your Pachanga questions. If they don’t see this thread, you can hail them over there.

Just the common problems of a boat that is 20 years old.

The 80s Pachanga was a great design, and still has many fans. Most of the problems were limited to the 27' and 32' versions. (there was a 19' too, it was killed off in less than 2 years)

Check for blisters, wet stringers, etc. If you have any more questions, visit our website:

I have owned a 1987 P-22 for many years. Mine is in perfect orginal shape and I never have problems with it. Years ago when I bought it I had all liquids, plugs, belts and hoses changed. I did replace the Alpha 1 drive with a Bravo 1 drive. This boat has never let me down. It runs a top speed of 70 mph . I have never pulled up to a dock that a bunch of guys did not come over and look at the boat.

I consider it to be like a 1972 Corvette. Great Boat and Great Times.

I love the Pachanga. I went to the pachanga board and looked at some of them. Very nice. One thing they noted is Pachanga means (Blast) My original Sea Ray book says it means (very lively party). Good luck on your purchase.

Solid boats, I've had mine for 12 years, put a lot of money into it initially, and it has paid off. I attached pics to my "new member" post today. Performs as well or better than new boats in it's class that cost $50-$80K. Will not break a budget and you can do a lot to upgrade without stepping up to a huge boat pmt...Just look at the price of the new one, although that is comparing apples and oranges... Recommend Bravo outdrive for the big block engines, single ram hydraulic pwr steering and trim tabs if your engine output is over 330HP... Cuddy is barely adequate for 2 adults, but will do in a pinch. Very efficient on gas, decent performance, very safe under 70 mph...Also can save you money on storage fees, small enough to dry stack if you don't have room at home...
