I hope I know the answer to this, but since we have a one week vacation starting this week, I want some reassurance!

This past weekend, we were cruising and I had a friends mother "driving the boat"... I noticed we were starting to slow down, while she had not touched the throttles...I then had her bring the boat off plane, and went back to look and realized we had gone through a weed bed...

We idled for a coulple minutes, and I noticed one of my temp gauges was a tick over 170, normally they are right on at 170.

The impellers were done 40 hrs ago btw

Yesterday, it got up to operating temp, but never over it. It was just me on the boat, so the load was considerably less.

I'm assuming she was dragging weeds and restricted the flow of water temporarily, but wanted to check my thinking.
Thanks

i just had my drive fixed from something restricting the flow. Depending on your engine's year, your engine's timing should slow down to a "safe mode" if your temp gets too hot and the alarm goes off. Once you shut off the motor and restart it, it resets until the alarm sounds again.

if it's an older motor, you have to shut it down yourself....or damage will occur.

How about cleaning your strainers once in a while. Especially when you've gone through a weedy day.

His boat does not have strainers for the engines. The water is drawn thru the outdrives. SB
