Overheating. Almost done saga.

Actually he is an old friend of mine, total labor so far has been a little over $200.
If I had deep pockets, i wouldn't have a 30 yo boat :)

Well, that’s different but your whole season has evaporated chasing it around.

Try the clear hose trick. 10 minutes and 2 bucks and you’ll know something important without removing the OD.

Best of luck.

You summed it up, we sat down and decided we are out of ‘firm’ ideas and an actual plan. This morning I went to the fancy marina next door and talked to them. They were great. Said they just need to find an empty slip to put mine in and will call soon. Probably take it Monday or Tuesday. Which is amazing this time of year. With luck i may get it back by next weekend. I should have done this 2 months ago.
Whatever it costs it will be worth not having to mess with it. I may actually sleep tonight first time all week.

Don’t want to start a new thread. Does anybody know what became of the guy who was having a big SR hauled and the transport ran into a bridge and took the whole arch clean off? Havent seen any posts what became of that.

I will say this as speculation. Some have posted this idea which i agree with, its easier to suck air than fluid. Try it with a straw.
I believe that somewhere in the system there is an air leak that under load is causing it to suck air not water. I really believe this. I just cant find it. I hope the pros can.

Hoses only, but its out of my hands now, passed it on to the professionals.
At this point my involvement is a check.

Might be a good preemptive time to replace trans/oil coolers. Far easier cheaper than the alternative. I got lucky - caught the slick in the water and launch, 2 weeks to figure out where/how, minimal engine hours while troubleshooting, and just a bit of water in the oil. New coolers and 5 oil changes later all is good.

I would definitely have a new set of eyes look at the problem by way of a boat mechanic. The shotgun approach to replace everything that it could be is one way to go about....expensive guessing. Someone needs to tell you what it definitely is and then replace. Just an opinion.

You know, I was thinking, one last item no one has mentioned, a partially stuck open thermostat? Easy check if its out of the water now. Pull that off, plunk in pot of water on stove and watch for it to open fully (or not). You can also check water temp to confirm temp when its open full.

Bought new, then swapped for another new one.

Put the clear hose in or tell the mechanic to do so.

You need to verify the presence, volume and quality of the incoming water before looking into why it’s not cooling the engine.

If you have good, air free water coming onboard in the suitable amount you’ve learned something huge.

Keep heading down stream from there.

I hope I’m wrong, but I think your block, heads and/or intake manifold are clogged with rust scale, sediment or both.

Old salt or brackish water engines that are raw water cooled can’t avoid this forever.

Its with the professionals at another marina. The only finger I’m lifting is to write the check. Thanks though for the ideas. Block flushed, heads redone, mans, risers new last winter.

No, Cutters Marina clearing up some work orders. Called this morning. Waiting for current repairs owners to come get their boats and free up a slip for me to go to. Any day i think. Hope. Weather not been nice so not sure when these owners coming to take their boats.

Did you use the gasket with the 2 rivets in it for the thermostat housing. I had bought sierra brand and had problems. The rivets make continuity for sensors. I had all wacky readings. Turned out the Sierra brand gasket sucked and rivets rusted. You should be able to put some kind of wire Jumper from Sensor body to a good ground on block to test it. I also had a circulator water pump on front of engine with a broken shaft. It would move water. When I removed circulator water pump if you spun pully and held the impeller it would spin.

Bone, honestly, i didnt do anything. Had a buddy who did all the work. Then i got the feeling he was out of ideas. That when i went to see the mechanics at the big marina next door. Waiting to take to them. Wasted summer. But its a really nice boat. In amazing shape, paid for. Hope i can get fixed before winter. Its a toy, day at a time, not stressing. If i can salvage September October i be happy.
Kids gone. Wife and me mostly hang marina, putt to tiki bars on river, and a couple times we make a trip down bay.

..and this may explain why my gauges are 'off'. Thanks for the info/insight!
