In researching the web, I came across several different size overhead tv/vcr units. These units are actually intended for a motorcoach or custom stretch limo applications but since my boat, 2005 390 Motor Yacht, has a hard top, I am thinking about installing one in my boat. They are 12 volt and I really don't have to worry about moisture since the entire cockpit area is enclosed. I guess my biggest concern is the viewing angle and how big a screen would suffice. I have been looking at the Jensen JE17FDTV, which is a 17" model and the Pyle PLRD195IF which is a 19" model. Does anyone have any knowledge about these units?

Have you though about buying a flat screen and make a mount. I did this in a Carver bridge boat. I wanted the TV in the bridge and mounted a small flat screen to the structure holding I glass in place. It worked great. I bought a good 19 inch flat screen and bought the swing arm mount that allowed me to remove the TV. Then I found a way to mount it it the viewing area I wanted. I could remove the tv at will. Hope this helps

I have been thinking about that as well. Did you have any problems will the sunlight while watching the unit? In my researching I have found some lcd tv's that are made for outdoor use. One of the "claims to fame" is that they are brighter and sunlight doesn't affect the picture.

Did you use marine grade flat screen or a home unit? My first preference is to have the tv mounted permanently. I have a flat area on the hardtop that can be accessed for wiring and mounting. The area is about 13.5 inches deep so I am restricted by that measurement. The width over 30 inches so that isn't a problem. I thought about using some kind of mount like is used for a kitchen tv that mounts under a cabinet. That way I could just fold the screen down when I wanted to watch it. The roof mounted units are a cleaner look but I could probably get a flat screen of better quality for less.
