I just put my boat in yesterday after having it at the mechanics. At the end of last season I noticed that my outdrive was twitchy ,like I had to play with the button on the throttle lever to make it go up or down, then one I rocked it back and forth a bunch it worked ok. So I noticed the trim senders on the outdrive, the wire were stripped of the rubber coating and it had a bunch of bare wiring showing and it was corroded,So put it in the shop and had it sender unit replaced. I asked him how everything was,and he said fine,he made all the proper measurments and it was working fine. So put it in the water, lowered the outdrive and drove to my dock, while im down there today cleaning I decided to start it up and test everything and now my outdrive wont go up by the switch? It will go down just fine,,but not up,,but however it will go up with the trailer button? Would it be safe to assume that the switch is bad and not the work the mechanic did?
Is there anything I can test on the switch? Im not even sure how to remove the switch from the throttle lever to take a look at it,any thoughts on that? This is a 87' 268 sundancer.

I was just down there poking around and retesting it and found that it does work but it cuts off at a quarter way up mark. So if I hit the trailer button to pull it all the way up,I can then use my switch on the throttle lever to bring it down anywhere I want, and if I go fully down,I can use the switch to bring it up,,but it stops movement at the 1/4 mark. I can then use the trailer button to center it on the gauge but not on the switch.. Not to mention when it is centered on my gauge it doesnt look anywhere near centered in the water. So would you say this is the mechanics fault and he didnt set it up right?

That sounds like the way it's supposed to work. The rocker button on the handle is the trim and that limits the up trim to a safe limit for when the engine is running. The trailer button should only be used when the engine is off. You can adjust where the gauge reads via the round switch on the drive. You can also adjust the limit, but that shouldn't be messed with under normal circumstances.

Your drive has a limit switch on the port side. There a couple of youtube videos on how to set it but it sounds like it is working. The limit switch is there so you do not raise the outdrive to high that the prop cavitates. The gauge is driven by a similar looking sensor on the starboard side of the outdrive and can be adjusted to your liking.

dang Dennis I need to sharpen my typing skills.

Forgive my ignorance, but as you can tell I dont know much about boats. So if im reading this right the rocker button shouldnt be able to raise the drive all the way up? Before I just had the trim senders replaced my rocker button would raise and lower it any way I wanted,,So thats when it was bad and should not have done that? I feel much better that you said this is correct,I watched a youtube vid and seen there drive didnt come up that much either,I didnt see where it was on their gauge but my drive looked like it moved to the similar position. lol,No wonder why I had to replace the U-joints the first year I owned the boat.

That is correct. If you were able to raise the drive all the way up while underway, you could loose steering ability or even damage your bellows. It's a safety feature. The trailer switch raises the drive all the way up so you can pull the boat out of the water on your trailer and not drag the out drive skeg on the boat ramp bottom.

Thank you everyone,,Took a lot of stress of my shoulders and saved me a embarrassing phone call to my mechanic.

It's usually me! :smt001

Profit: My "guess" is that a previous owner had an issue and rather then fixing things properly, rewired things so the rocker switch provided full movement - and then your mechanic made things right.
