I am curious where you guys store your outboards for your inflatables. I have a Yamaha 4hp 4 stroke and it does not fit in the transom locker or under the seats. Any ideas on how to carry the engine while underway? thanks

Hi Jim, my friend has a 2003 380 and keeps his 9hp 2 stroke in the trunk, you might have to slowly guide it in with help sideways and on an angle. those 4 strokes are awkward but a 4hp wont fit? sell it and find a lightly used 2 stroke.

Hi Dave! I should have gave it more thought before purchasing the Yamaha. my friend got a great deal on them and I jumped on it. I will try getting it in the trunk. The problem is that the 4 stroke can only be rested on 1 side. If the 9hp fits than the 4 has to fit. I will let you know! thanks

Jim,

I store my 6HP outboard under the seat in the cockpit on the starboard side. I bought a "boot caddy" at Home Depot with a short about 1" collar on it that I place the engine in while under the seat to catch any residual water (or oil etc.) that may leak out of the engine.

So far, no problem with the engine sliding while under way.

I've got nowhere to stow my 6hp 2-stoke. I keep it in duffel bag that's got a sheet of closed cell foam in the bottom of it. The bag makes it easier to move about. The foam keeps it from gouging ankles and gelcoat. I also toss in a sheet or two of the oil/gas absorbent cloths.

When there's no guests I just keep it under the table in the cockpit. Otherwise it goes below in the cabin. The only trouble there is the mass of metal tends to confuse the flux gate compass used by the autopilot (raymarine). At some point I'll move the compass but meanwhile I just don't use the autopilot when the engine needs to be stowed.

Most powerboats have no good places to stow a dinghy outboard.

I have my dingy tipped up on the back of my 380, I leave my motor on the dingy while it's tipped up. Though I have 2 stroke motor.

A good friend of mine tips his up also, he has a 4 stroke and his motor allows him tip it on the side with the tiller arm on the down side. Do some research on 4 stroke motors and find out which ones you can lay on it's side.

This works great, the only better way is a platform lift.

Good luck
