Ill be sanding down and repainting the drives on my 268. I've figured out that its an Alpha drive based on the shapes of the drive. But how do I determine if its a gen I or II. The serial number is 0B974051

Thanks. That kind of worked. It told me it was an Alpha 1. 84:1 RH stern drive but the parts picture it showed was some type of wiring.

I've definitely seen better designed websites. That diagram was just the first one for "Auto Trim Components." There is a drop down box at the top for another twenty or so diagrams and catalogs. It should be comprehensive. It answered your original question - you have a Gen 1.

You have a Gen I.

Are you the original owner? The reason I ask is that I see you are in upstate NY and it was originally sold to a gentleman from a town not too far from Rochester. If you are, that's a long time to keep a boat!

No, as far as I know I'm the third owner. Do you have a data base or something that you were able to find that out? The person I got it from was in Plattsbugh NY.. We just got her Memorial day weekend of this past summer. She has been a GREAT boat and a great addition to our family.

Yes, the first thing I did was to double check your serial number. I didn't want to post any personal information (hence the reason I said "not too far from") if it was you. But in this case, it won't matter - the original owner lived in Victor. However, I can't tell how many owners there have been.

I'd really love to know the history on the motors. the lady we got it from said they had about 12hrs on them (rebuilds). Everything she said that had been done on them I found evidence of, such as shift cables and dealer service. But she had no paper work on the engines themselves. They look like they are out of the crate.
Thanks for looking them up. Its good to know they are likely original. The last owner said they had been resealed. However the boat hadn't seen water for two years prior to me buying it.

You only gave a serial number for one Alpha drive and I am pretty sure that is what Dennis is referring to. That drive is the original from 1988. The engines are probably new based on what your seller told you.

I have a friend that has been working on boats since he graduated high school. I decided to call him to confirm I will order the right parts to fix this oil leak. Turns out it is a drain to the area of the shift linkage. There is a seal in there that is "missed 90% of the time a unit is resealed" Part number 40 in the NAPA blow up in this pic.
