The more I think about this, the more I chuckle about it....During our trip last week, we passed through 16 locks, most were uneventful for the exception of one, Lock 3 above Redwing, MN.

We had a 330DA with 1 young lady and 3 guys I'd guess to be in their early 30's just ahead of us in a lock that appeared to be having a good time yelling, laughing, and all was good. One of the guys exchanged some small talk with my wife while she was setting on the cabin doing lock duty.

We use dock poles to catch the lines from the lockmaster and to fend our boat and fenders off the slimmy green lock walls.

And that's when things got out of hand....The guy started making fun of us because were were being "anal" about keeping our fenders off the lock wall using our sissy dock poles. He kept calling her "Hey lady with the pole" just egging it on....Our anchor started getting kind of close to their transom. They were having too good of a time to keep tension on thier lock lines so our boats were getting too close for her comfort. And then it happened, Mrs. Stray Cat says "Why don't you just shut the f*** up and pay attention to your boat and what your doing". WOW that was my wife talking to a complete stranger, then the words A$$hole flew out of her, and the coup de grace was this one! "You people are a disgrace to Sea Ray"! Holly Cow, the home run...they were speachless. Then they lipped off something that was over the top and then I engaged my trap, because you don't go insultin my girl. When I'm pissed I have all the finese of a train wreck. Shortly after I let my F words and A word fly the lock door opened. I appologized to the boat behind us for my french, they were laughing and I don't blame them....we had to be pretty good entertainment.

In the end, they went on their way, no fists exchanged, no gelcoat got scuffed and it was an experience I'll never forget.....damn my wife really showed some moxie!

How about yours? Other than you, has your wife ever let anyone have it?

Nah.. I'm the only one (except our son) that gets told off. I have been told I am a very very easy going guy... so much so I was also told by many that I am defintely going to heaven... :smt038

I know it's happened, but can't think of a good example right now. My good friend's wife bitched out a Captain of a 280 for maneuvering across their anchor rode a couple of day's ago. I 'splained to the Captain that my friends had been pulled out of their anchorage in recent weeks, and that he needed to be add some power quickly to vector away from hazards and not allow his boat to drift across other people's lines.

I felt bad for my friends, but I also felt bad for the new guy. We have a reputation in our little gang that keeps others from trying to join in the fun. I didn't want to perpetuate that. Everyone's got to learn some time.

My wife is more or less docile, and simply enjoys watching me make an ass out of myself

Mine is what I call "persuasive". She rarely gets abusive, but nearly always gets folks to do things her way and on her timeline.

An example this week - to the drywall guy fixing water damage to the ceiling in our recroom - "This popcorn all needs to come off so the ceiling will be smooth". Drywall guy "But that is alot more work for me". Her "You are a true craftsman and I am confident you will make it look great". Result - smooth ceiling.

Wow, way different than my " I dont give **** how much more work it is, just focking do it " approach.

Sounds a lot like Kim. She can tell you to go to hell & make you look forward to the trip....:smt043

Oh yeah. My wife speaks her mind pretty well, but I don't have an example either.

My fiance speaks her mind a little too frequently. I'm the diplomatic person in the relationship with the clear head. She has definitely gone off on people in the past to the point where it's embarrassing and I walk away.

The latest one happened back in June. It was at the marina and we had just gotten down to the boat Friday afternoon. It was the weekend of the big Jimmy Buffett concert and the marina and surrounding area gets PACKED with people. Nevertheless, I walk to my boat to find a transient in a new 36 DB who has unplugged my boat and popped it into another stanchion which was designated for another slip holder 2 down from me. Since the dock master has right to move around boats/equipment as necessary (it's listed in my contract with the marina this way), I politely asked him if he had moved the power cord. He responded no he had no idea what I was speaking about. Soooo, back to my boat I went, replugged my boat in, and down to the salon I went. Upon opening up my fridge I noticed the meat had spoiled and my beer was luke warm. Obviously the other boater who unplugged my boat tripped the breaker or took their grand old time plugging me back in, which ultimately led to spoiling the meat. Dock master comes back and asks why I went and replugged in my boat (unplugging the other guys). I explained that it was the stanchion for my slip, why would I steal another guy's power receptacle? I also showed him the meat that had spoiled. Out of no where comes the fiance from the salon up on deck. She about pushes me aside and gets right in the dock master's face. She tells him the guy has no right to unplug the boat to which the dock master replied it was a personal friend of his (see where this is going, even if the transient did nothing wrong?). She then tells the dock master he doesn't know how to run the marina because of the lack of maintenance, the unresolved issues brought up previously, and the several times he changed the locks and didn't let slip holders know (unable to access our boat for several days), etc. They went at it, let me tell you. I repeatedly had to tell her to calm down before she finally did went back to the salon.
