Good Afternoon Fellow Sea Ray Owners:

First I hope everyone is having a GREAT Labor Day Weekend! I wish I was out on the Lake - ALAS - someone has to work :-(

We are ordering a new 270SDX. I have spoken to SEVERAL current Owners about the interior color options - particular the "Dune" and Tan flooring. All LOVE the way it looks but ALL indicated it is too HOT to walk on or sit on during the summer months. That will NOT fly with my family. Apparently the tan SeaDek Flooring is fine to walk on (swim platform or in the interior area).

Because of the universal comments about the Dune being too hot, we will order with either the Ivory or Grey upholstery with and the Gray "snap in infinity woven vinyl flooring (Gray SeaDeK on swim platform).

My question to all - pro's con's on Grey or Ivory - especially as it relates to temperature. We keep our Boat on Lake Martin in Alabama - so summers are warm. A bit concerned about Ivory (basically white) showing dirt etc. We do "dry store" the boat when we are not at the lake - so it goes inside.

Our current '09 240Sundeck has off white (Ivory??) and it is fine to sit on without a towel (has carpet flooring). Will sell the boat once the new one arrives in the spring ...

Thanks for any comments with experience/suggestions on color!!

Happy Boating,

Bill

Back in the day, carpet was nice when we had the kids and came out of water wet and slippery feet. Now kids gone and going down the swim ladder just don’t happen anymore. Cockpit carpet became another maintenance item to eliminate.

Go with the light color for reasons you state. We got rid of cockpit carpet for same reason. Burn feet, now its just white fiberglass floor and much cooler. Especially with a quick hose spray from transom shower.

When you say light color … Gray or White?? Definitely NOT doing the Dune/Tan combo - looks GREAT but everyone says WAY to hot.

I have a question for you. Did you get the I/O ? Or OB? This is the boat I’ll be looking for real soon and thinking Outboard.
Glad your bringing up these questions

I have the OB version and can provide ample details on anything you have questions about.

I will be getting the I/O - we keep it on a Lake and prefer to have the full swim platform. Having said that, Paulsagelock has a WEALTH of knowledge about Sea Rays and specifically the 270SDX - as he stated above he OWNS a 2018 270SDX with an outboard.

Based on feed back here and on the Sea Ray Owners website - I intend to have mine equipped with the Ivory upholstery. I REALLY like the look of the “Dune/Tan” combination but the heat is a problem. I don’t know if it is the vinyl that is used or the color or both - but having seats and flooring to hot to sit on just isn’t for our family.

Food for thought, when we have all canvas off in the heat of summer, we still have to put beach towels on the white vinyl seat. ya, i may be contradicting myself from earlier, tough call, your boat. If you like tan throw beach towels on seats.

I had the Ivory interior on my 250 SDX OB, and I went with Stone on my 290. The Ivory was a pain to keep clean, the Stone seems much more forgiving from a maintenance perspective (make sure to use a protectant like 404). I live in Florida, so the vinyl can get hot if the boat is just sitting, but when underway no major issues. Nobody has ever complained, nor have i felt it was uncomfortable. I also have the snap-in Sea Dek throughout and it is very cool (and comfortable) to walk on.

Refreshing here... considering the a new 270sdx - We really like the dune classic look, but agree that it will be too hot - don't want to take that chance, and be sorry... Prefer the stone over the ivory. Opinion: Will the stone be noticeably cooler than the dune? Thanks and be safe out there.

We have Dune with the tan infinity flooring. The seats under the bimini are fine to sit on but the seats in direct sun get hot. A bigger problem for us is the infinity gets super hot to the point there have been times I needed to wear flip flops to get on the boat. Love the look of the dune/ tan and in hind site would have done seadek in the cockpit. Just my 2 cents.

We SeaDek flooring on our SPX 210. My wife says the floor gets too hot and wears her flip flops. The seats do get hot in the summer, and we put towels down. People compliment how nice the boat looks and say the colors make the boat stand out.

Dune looks the best but agreed it’s very hot and the infinity flooring is a scorcher believe it or not the sea deck is cooler than the infinity. We bought used so had no choice other than maybe remove the infinity but it looks fantastic.

Dune seats will definitely be too warm for your climate. I have white seats in my Sea Hunt and it sits outside on the dock for 7 days in a row in the Florida heat. We can always jump right on and sit on the seats and go. We're particular about maintenance and keeping the seats clean, even after a spill, has been pretty effortless.

Regarding Sea Deck, I had tan on my 420DA through the cockpit and swim platform and while it was definitely warmer than white fiberglass non-slip it was still cool enough to walk on after sitting out in the Texas heat all day.

Everybody has an opinion, so take mine for what its worth.

Infinity flooring is a non starter. Hot as all getout. The SeaDek is the best flooring I ever had. Cool and comfortable in all conditions.

Dune looks awesome and its cleanable and easy to maintain. After having a white upholstery boat, I'll stick with the dune. (I just don't get the comments that its too hot)

We inquired about a 2019 250SDX last year and the broker warned me the white interior was ruined apparently there was a problem with sea rays white material that year where pink spots appeared all over I think it was mold.
Anyone looking at boats around that era check the cushions good.
