I seen orange wire on alternator need a new crimp end . Old one had been hot . Just thinking old , I’ve owned boat 11 years . I installed new one . As soon as o fired motor. Orange wire heated up like direct power ????. I killed battery switch. With orange wire disconnected from alternator it’s showing 12 volts ??? Where’s that coming from . Thanks

Clarify, orange wire measuring 12V or stud showing 12V? The orange wire should read battery voltage, within a couple 10ths, as its connected to the battery B+. Sounds like a shorted alternator. Becomes a path to ground when turning.

it reads 12v disconnected from alternator.I guess that's reading battery through starter?Ive done some research since post.I have a Mando alternator .So if I try testing across B-B+ should there 12v motor off? Then start and should read more little rpm added? I tried testing from orange lug to ground at battery 0.Not sure if that means anything or not. Thanks for you guys input

Sounds normal to me. Excess heat is usually a loose connection. You haven't blown the 90 amp fuse so your probably good. Charging right?
