We are looking at a new dinghy and there is an option for an aluminum floor, other than the obvious(not rotting)does anyone have any experience with it?As always; Thanks in advance.

I had an Achilles with a roll-up aluminum floor and it made for easy storage. BUT if I had to do it again, I think I'd get the inflatable air floor if it's available (I don't think Achilles offered this option). Much softer on the knees and butt!

We had the 16' Zodiac futura sport boat with the alu floor for many years as a beach boat. That was solid and stable.

As for a dinghy, opt for the the air floor. We have the roll up wood floor on ours but the only time its in the water is when we are using Bella. The rest of the time the Zodiac is up on our dock. If the dinghy had to stay in the water we would have spent the extra for the air floor.

I agree with the comments above - I had the wood floor, bought the air floor to replace, so much easier. Luckily achilles makes the same hull for both so i did not need to buy a new boat, just the floor.

Have an Achilles with air floor. Works great. Would like to upgrade to a fiberglass hull dinghy some day, but not until we can lift it up and haul it (hydraulic platform). Our friends have them, and they are like little boats. They are much faster, carry more, are less work and smoother. They are heavier, costlier...

Our inflatable floor works very well, is light weight, and easy on the toes. We put a hole in it once, and my patch didn't hold, but the professional one did. They take 9.0 psi and allow the 8hp, 9'6" boat plane with 3 adults (nothing else) or 2 adults, ice and snorkling gear... It tows very well with the bow on the swim platform. Towing behind the boat on a long line does not work well.
