Will this work on older SR or is this just for the new ones that have the computer system? This looks like something useful and the cost is reasonable. What do you all think?

MERCURY MARINE
MercMonitor with ECO-Screen

Product Details

The MercMonitor featuring the ECO-Screen — 2010 Grand Prize Winner for West Marine's first annual Green Product of the Year Contest.
MercMonitor is an affordable, high-value digital vessel monitoring system that allows you to select three pieces of data to be displayed at once. Customize up to five tri-data screens so you can adjust effortlessly to meet your changing needs.
The ECO-Screen is a feature of the MercMonitor that tells you what you need to do, as a boater, to obtain the best fuel economy for your application. The ECO feature constantly monitors engine RPM, boat speed, fuel consumption and engine trim to automatically calculate and guide you to your best fuel economy settings.
Benefits:
  • 10 - 20% increase in fuel economy (based on average user)
  • Automatic - No calibration needed! The ECO feature is always working in the background to optimize your fuel economy
  • User friendly - Easy to understand user prompts that tell you exactly what you need to do
  • Multi-color Screen - ECO-Screen uses colors and reverse video to show you, at a glance, when you've optimized your fuel economy. (Green = Optimized, Yellow = Not Optimized)
  • Diameter: 3-3/8"

Your engine must be a Smartcraft capable design. Those started to be phased-in during the the 2002 model year.

This is in part a re-packaging of existing SmartCraft displays, but more importantly this thing can act as a NMEA2000 gateway to port SmartCraft data to NMEA2000 displays. I saw a demo at the NE boatshow where even the NMEA2000 compliant Raymarine displays would show Smartcraft data!

That's pretty cool. I don't need a speedo, so maybe I will replace it with one of those. I was going to link the smart craft output to my gps unit but maybe not.

I was actually just Googling this morning an 0183 to 2000 converter to use the Lowrance guages on my 2008 210 SD with Smartcraft. Does this mean, with this guage, I don't need an additional converter and can use this plus any other NMEA 2000 device? I may consider just replacing my standard guages with these and color code my display.

What is the cost of each guage? I can get the Lowrance ones for $177.

On the West Marine site, they ranged from $538 to $999 depending on the features. They were out of stock though.

I am currently installing one on my 2007 6.2 engine. Will let you know how it goes. Very easy install. Prices are best here but the marina dealer near by will sell it for around $450 complete with harness:

Good news on the 2007 6.2 engine as this monitor can retro fit to analog gauges with just a simple adapter off the back of your analog gauges...

You should only require data 1 output unless you pull ski. Despite the ad, my dealer swears data 1 is GPS and fuel monitor capable. His prices are $384 + SH... It has a NMEA 2000 backbone... plus includes the wiring harness to/from the engine and the monitor... nice system and they just started to ship out from the factory Mar 1 and were back ordered for a while. I install mine after my total knee surgery next week (both knees) so it may be a while..

Some tell me it is not sutable, other sais only level 1, a still other only the early version will work. I was also said that it is only foer VERADO and OPTIMAX. Please turn on the light for me.
