The first appearance by a sitting president on "The Tonight Show" may well end up being the last.

President Obama, in his taping with Jay Leno Thursday afternoon, attempted to yuk it up with the funnyman, and ended up insulting the disabled.

Towards the end of his approximately 40-minute appearance, the president talked about how he's gotten better at bowling and has been practicing in the White House bowling alley.

He bowled a 129, the president said.

"That's very good, Mr. President," Leno said sarcastically.

It's "like the Special Olympics or something," the president said.

When asked about the remark, the White House said the president did not intend to offend.

I like his response, actually.

I am tired of sugar coating everything for the sake of PC. My daughter is learning disabled and participates in the SO. I was not insulted by that comment.

It is what any of us would say in normal goofing around conversation.

And while on Air Force 1 after the show, but before it aired, he called the president of SO to applogize before anyone even saw it.

Im 50/50 on Obama, so not like I support/not support him. Anyone could have made that statement, even someone I dislike and I'd defend them.

Having been at SO many times to watch my daughter, I can attest the fact all of us as parents LOVE our children, take pride in the fact they are participating, root for them, support them etc...

However, ya know what? We also laugh a little when little Johnny runs the wrong way, or when Suzie drops the baton halfway down her leg of the race, then looks at it then runs again without it and has a quizzical look when she gets to the person she has to hand it off too...even Johnny and Suzies parents laugh a little. The kids even laugh.

They are people. They do understand humor whether the narrow minded pc police believe this or not. They are more self aware and can enjoy these little things as much as we do.

It just sometimes takes them a bit longer to get the punchline.

IMHO - The really sad thing about this is WTF is the POTUS doing on late night TV to start with??????

A intersting question.

The BBC had a long segment on this topic this morning. They were very condenscending as only a British show can!

On one hand. . they have a point. On the other hand. . if the Beeb disapproves, then Big O is probably right.

Personally, I think it shows Obama is willing to get out of the glass bubble.

The remark was innocent and not offensive in my opinion. You can watch the whole Leno interview on NBC's web site and you judge for yourself. And the guy was man enough to aplogize for it but I'll bet a dollar to a donut it was a staff member who had to tell him his choice of words could have been better because he probably never realized it.

The aggravating thing about this is it is getting so much media attention. Obama said a lot of other things that were a lot more newsworthy but none of these are getting attention. However, that's what I expect of today's media.....................focus on the "dirt" and don't report the news. And I am not an Obama fan either so don't accuse me of defending the guy.

You just don't say that if you are the POTUS. Just imagine the media outcry if Bush, Cheny, Romney, or McCain said that. Read about it on page 14.

Doing what he knows and is comfortable with, being a celebrity. We need a leader, not a figure head.:wow:

I'd rather see him on the Late Show then landing on a aircraft carrier with a big frick'n sign that says......"MISSION ACCOMPLISHED"

No chance of that happening. We are going to have to sell all of our aircraft carriers to pay for national healthcare. Gotta love socialism.

I don't want to know about his yucking it up with celebrities, his NCAA picks, his bowling game, what school his children are attending or what type of dog he finally decided upon. I want him to concentrate on the mess he has inherited and somehow made exponentially worse in 3 short months. I want to know why he and his sycophants in the Congress and the Senate are calling for AIG employees and chiefs to be burned at the stake for this asinine bonus-gate thing when THEY KNOWINGLY authored the bill that ALLOWED FOR IT! Then they throw Geitner under the bus rather than explaining to the American people that this was part of the employees contractual compensation package. It is such blatant diversionary tactics - ALL OF IT! It steers us (and our President) away from what the real problems are. I could care less about a slip of the tongue like he had last night - quite honestly, I'm sick of all the PC bull crap that goes around now-a-days. But I can assure you if it was a member of the other party who made that comment, it'd be all over the local and national news and there'd be hundreds if not thousands of protesters stomping around Washington today, calling for resignations and political hides. Instead we have protesters and mobs harassing AIG employees in their front yards.

she would have been kicked out

Frank, what worries me is that I honestly and very sadly don't agree with what you've said. Very few people, in red and blue states alike, have any type of self-formulated opinions. We are handed opinions and brainwashed to believe what we are told by all forms of leftist media - it's like the Manchurian Candidate. Fact is, there are probably very few states that would have run her out of town on a rail. I can think of another way that involves rails to get rid of her.

+10 :smt038 I agree. Although I am not partial to him, I do not find any issue with what he said. We need to stop being do PC and get back to dealing with important issues.

Yeah, gotta agree on that issue as well. Although I don't hink he did anything wrong with what he said, WTF is doing there? Why is he haviong a party every Wednesday night? Isn't there this little issue called "the economy" kinda needing to e dealt with? Just getting worried that this guy is gonna be asleep at the wheel when something major happens.
