Online Purchases - Boat Supplies?

All WM price match, it is the corporate policy as of now. Some managers may not be as interested as others. My local store replaced leaking fenders, while a friends store would not. I told my manager about that, he sent my friend back in and it was done properly. It is what you know and how you use it that makes WM a good deal.

As I said before build relationships!!!

Some places do match, some places don't. And you have to have the item in stock in order to price match. The West Marine's local to me don't have much more than basic supplies.

Doug, a neighbor's son is the manager of one of the two local WM stores and so we talk frequently when I go there. He (the manager) is pretty confident that all WM's are supposed to price match by corporate policy and that they will do this for items which must be ordered from their catalog to the store.

Which WM store wouldn't price match for you?

WM in Cherry Hill, NJ. I stopped shopping with them.

Everytime I went for a part, they never had it in stock - "Sorry sir, I'll have to order it for you." Ok when will the part be in? "About 1-2 weeks sir."

One time I actually took them up on it. I needed a Jabsco joker valve for my head. It was the middle of the winter and I thought well hell, I don't need it tomorrow. I had him order it Tuesday. The order was supposed to be in next Monday. Monday comes and it never showed. The next truck was due in within a couple days. I waited for the next truck. It never came on that truck. I waited another week. Still not on that truck. Finally I said F-it and I purchased online and had it on my front door step in two days.

I'm glad you have good luck with your local one. Your buddy is probably knowledgable and hence why the store stays in business. The ones local to me have people who can't even work the register.

My store will get it in a day or so if I need it that bad, especially if I have hired someone to work for me to install etc. You should contact the company and let them know of the problems at this store. WM is on a mission to get their customer service top notch right now.

That's really unacceptable. I agree, I wouldn't shop there either. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a WM apologist. I had a customer service issue with one of their employees myself once and posted of it here. I stopped shopping at that WM store because I was so ticked off at the way I was treated. When I found out my neighbor's son managed the other local WM store I started shopping there periodically and have had only good experiences. I do get a little tired of them always trying to pitch me their buyer's club whenever I buy something though.

Personally I'm not a fan of West Marine at all. They're not good for much else than basic supplies which are usually marked up 30% or more.

I typically purchase most of my parts online.

I agree, W.M.is way overboard with prices....:smt009

I'm no WM cheerleader, but do support suppliers that have taken exceptional care of my needs as a customer.

That said, how can prices be "overboard" if they match others, stand behind their products, and provide what few others do in the local market?

If I buy from abcmarine.com will they stand behind it? Be in bisiness in 6 months? I can get their price and security at WM. If you have better choices go there
