One of my twin Raymarine E120 reads "No data" on all sources

I have two Raymarine E120's and one of them gives me a "No Data" message on both chart plotter, Satellite TV, and radar. I checked all the wires and everything appears to be connected properly on both units. This has been the case since I sea trialed and bought the boat so I am not sure if they were ever synched. I haven't really played around with the RaymarineTV since I do not have a subscription or a DirecTV box yet, however this is the least of my concerns as I really prefer charts and radar on both screens. Also, the autopilot does not power up either, it beeps but and eventually has an alarm come on after a few minutes but the screen is always blank. It did work (at least had screen power on) when I sea trialed the boat. Anyone here have any experience with these units and any advice to share with setup? I've spent hours going through the setup and configuration menus and have made no progress with getting both to communicate.

If the E-120's were networked you probably have a bad network switch or bad Seatalk cable(s).

Brian,

After a few hours on the phone with Raymarine it appears the previous owner never had the proper setup where the two units communicated as master/slave. I was instructed to get 2 new cables and a stalk crossover coupler to get them to communicate... will see tomorrow. Also ordered the most recent software update from radarmarine as I am currently running v3.22. Hope that by tomorrow I'll have communication between the units.

Even if the two MFDs weren't networked you should still have a hard input from the radar and auto-pilot units to either one of the MFDs or into a network switch. The fact that you're not seeing your radar or autopilot icon on the MFD is not right.

That's true, the hard part is finding a compatible CF card. Radarmarine has a whole stash of them!

The E120 uses the big CF card. They are cheap now that the small mini ones came out. I've had one fro 4-5 years and just keep deleting it and using it over. Im interested in what you find out with your problem.

Today I purchased and installed the SeaTalk Crossover Coupler (E55060) and two E55049 cables as instructed by Raymarine. The "master" now communicated the vessel position and coordinates to the "slave", yet the "slave" had a no data warning to radar function while the chartplotter on the "slave" showed a correct position on the data bar with an empty map (no depth, marinas, icons or landmarks etc). In the top right hand corner of the screen on the "slave" the "x" has been lifted off of the satellite and radar icons. Clearly the two E-120's are now communicating. I called Raymarine and unlike yesterday they were less helpful and friendly, basically told me they won't give me any more assistance until I update the software to v5.69 on both units, which should solve all of my problems and no longer require me to call for assistance once done. Waiting to get the CF card from radarmarine and will let you know what happens once I perform this.

I know I could had just downloaded the update as mentioned in previous posts but I just didn't have the time and resources to get my MacBook married to all the other necessary hardware in order to begin the process of downloading/uploading etc. Considering I pay $25 for a piece of plastic such as a horn cover, $45 for the update on a CF card didn't seem at all like a rip off, if anything it feels like a fairly priced service all things considered. Updating the charts on the other hand makes my wallet sweat a little bit as it seems to be the equivalent of a car payment so I might be willing to do a bit more work for these if there is a cheaper way.

Greg,

Having gone through this process myself, you may also want to download the latest Raymarine instructions for the unit once you update to v5.69.

I bought two CF cards this spring, neither were able to be read by my E120's. Calling support, they suggested Radar Marine which I haven't done yet since I am having other issues with me E120's that now have me looking at a replacement/upgrade to the new es series.

I have a question? Now I'm no geek mind you but did you download the update from Raymarine? I had to do it twice but I got it. Even on the sounder and that's more trouble.

I downloaded the update and installed with no problems a few months ago. As per the suggested advice I used a 128mb CF card which I bought on E-Bay as I understand larger capacity CF cards may be problematic.

When I get back to the boat I will look at what I bought.
