Question: my boat (most of our boats I imagine) came with a Marinco cable tv cable and a Marinco telephone cable. If I was in a marina that had telephone service available, where is the telephone jack on board?

FYI: I wanted more telephone service on board than just our cell phones. I have a Verizon Mifi on board, and keep a laptop turned on all the time with a MagicJack plugged in (just a little netbook that I'm not using for other stuff). Then, I have a pair of cordless regular telephones that work off the MagicJack. That way we have a "boat" number that friends and family can get us on most of the time we're on the boat.

There is a plastic plug kinda hidden somewhere with a hole in it that allows the cord to pass through. Remove the plug from the hole and hanging from it will be the actual cord for the phone. Ours is behind the salon couch. Years ago I thought it would be cool to have a phone on the boat. Then cell phones became as common as white hulled Sea Rays... :smt101

I remember our broker talking about this "feature" when we first toured our boat but didn't pay much attention since I knew we'd never use it. The yellow phone cable is still in the sealed box - never used by the original owner. However, it seems like there was a wall phone outlet somewhere in the aft cabin area. Have you looked inside the high starboard cabinet just right of the electrical panel, where the 110v outlet is located? I haven't been down to our boat since you asked this question but I'll look aorund this weekend.

Right into the late 1980s and very early 1990s you could still get telephone service at most marinas. Or at least in my area you could. I switched over to a great big AMPS cell phone around 1988 and didn't bother with the land line. Some resort hotels use to wire the docks with land lines. You could plug in and call up room service... errr dock service(?) and have dinner brought down. I've not seen that in decades.

Best regards,
Frank

That service sounds like something i'd pay for. I may have found my connection, I'll post a pic when I'm sober...

Does it look like this? This thing is in one of my mid cabin storage shelves. There is no reference to it in the parts list or manual...

Different Strokes I guess. Part of the reason we boat is to get away from all the electronics, phones, noise, etc. We do have cell phones but they're often turned off when we're on the boat. The VHF remains on so other boaters can get us if they want.

I wasn't asking for advice on cell phones or the merits of using a phone on the boat, or looking to debate any of this.

I merely want to know where the onboard phone connection is inside the boat.
