I have three Optima D31M batteries on my '03 280DA. They are now 4 years old. I noticed some issues with one and tested all of the batteries with a tester I have. It indicated that both of my house batteries were bad. They tested as having barely 100CCA.

After doing a lot of reading on the subject, it seems several have had success bring their Optima batteries back to life using the Optima brand chargers. Which got me to thinking...I have the OEM on board charger from 2003 on the boat. I began to wonder if this had anything to do with the lifespan of these AGM type batteries...?

So, if there are others out there that have Optima batteries, what on board charger do you use? The Optima branded chargers are not good for on board placement as they are not ignition protected, nor waterproof.

I'm not sure if these Optima batteries are a different beast than other AGM batteries either (it sounds like they may be), so may require a charger that can optimize a recharge for these.
