hey gents ! after some years with our trailerable tiny 240 we want to go bigger . somehow i like the overall searay design and i,m looking for a 340-400 dancer , 2000 or newer.

living in europe i want diesels for sure .

what are in your opinion the best models in my range ?

best regards

Diesels? 400DA, 410DA 410EC. I am partial to the 2000-2004 range. I like the 2003-2004 the best as the electronics pod to the left of the helm is bigger and allows more options when/if upgrading. However, I ended up with a 2001 version and its a great boat. You will likely find CAT 3116/3126 in these years. They are good solid engines. Some had some issues in the late 90's (you can read all you want on here about those engines) but a lot of us own and run them and love them.

The next generation from 2004-2007ish are also good looking and have some very nice features, and this generation likely will be found with Cummins power. Also a great power choice.

Cant go wrong either way, but a through inspection including a separate engine survey is required to ensure everything is in order.

They made the 360 with diesels (Yanmar) and the 380 (CAT) but these seem to be fairly rare. I believe you need to get to the 410 before diesel propulsion gets to be a little more common.

I have never seen a 340 w/ diesels, the beam may be too narrow, it barley fits the big block chevy motors. (Which is a contributing factor of me owning a 360DA!)

Good luck on the search!

Viel Erfolg!

thanx so far ! so going diesels a 410 appears to be minimum .

another question : can i expect in a 400 class better overall detail quality than in my 240 ?

e.g the sink piping in a 240 is cheap pure plastik and needs replacement . the faucets are in regards to quality and durability not comparable to quality home installations .

front hook needed resealing because of poor sealant or work .

can i expect better materials on a 410 da or is this the same level on a just bigger boat ?

Generally anything made in the Yacht or Sport Yacht factories are more robust and built by more experienced workers. Some materials are common to smaller boats but the 400 and 410 were Merritt Island FL boats and you will find them to be very well built.
