I want to change the oil in my OMC 800 outdrive (1978). I have been told that the clutch takes 30 weight, but I can't find reliable information on what type of oil to use in the upper and lower parts of the outdrive.

Any help?

Thanks,

The 1968 OMC Service Manual for the stringer drive says: "Fill the upper and lower gearcases with OMC Type C lubricant."

Sorry, but that's all the info I have...

I found this on another site. Says to use OMC Premium Blend - I assume the Bombardier lubricants replace the OMC branded ones and I found them here.

The 800 Stringer units (NOT THE ELECTRIC SHIFT UNITS) use: Upper, lower and intermediate units use OMC Hi-Vis gear lube. Very similar to the Penzoil 85-90 gear lubes (will work fine) The tilt clutch uses plain onld non detergent 30 weght motor oil.
