I have an OOOOld RL70 MFD that I only use for radar. It is not worth upgrading. The radar works fine however the GPS seems dead. I haven't been able to troubleshoot why it's not working as I only noticed this at the end of the year,
I will be adding a Raymarine a78 MFD with sounder this year, mostly for ease of future upgrades, especially when the old radar dies.
So My question is this....can I get the a78 to send heading/location data to the RL70 through Seatalk? I know they are using 2 different versions of SeaTalk, but is there an adapter of some sort? I can make one if someone knows the wiring.
I'm pretty sure NMEA's wont work...the a78 is 2000, and the RL70 is 0183.

Or am I just better off getting the GPS working for the RL70 ?

I think that's exactly what I need! I have an electronic compass with NMEA0183 output so that covers the heading, so this looks just the solution for the GPS if I can't get the one that's connected to work.

Thanks!:smt038
It's a LOT cheaper that what Raymarine suggests. (I found some options on their site after I posted this)

There might be a CR2032 battery inside your GPS that has gone bad if its a raymarine unit. Thats what I'm going through with mine right now. Currently replacing the battery in it.
