Good day everybody! New to the forum!

I just purchased last week a 2007 Sea Ray 290 SLX that I am enjoying very much!

Everything works as it should besides its stereo. The previous owner said that "some speakers and an amp were out" but to be honest I am not sure where to start from.

The Clarion CMD4 powers up and changes sources but all I hear is a loud white noise coming out of some of the speakers. Before changing speakers and amps I bought a cheap radio with bluetooth to see if any sound comes out of the working speakers.

Any suggestions? Am I going the right route?

Thanks for your help in advance!

Have you hooked the "cheap radio" up yet? What was the outcome?

Myself, I would have pulled the RCA jacks from the Clarion head unit and just touched both of the center tips (left and right) and see if you get a loud buzz from the speakers. If so, amp and speakers may be OK. If not, maybe a bad amp.

The CMD4 also has speaker outputs... so it depends how everything is hooked up. On my boat the CMD4 drives the two cabin speakers and the external amp drives the four cockpit speakers.

BTW, I'm pulling my CDM4 out this weekend and upgrading to a Fusion 670, so I may have a working CDM4 for cheap!

Best of luck and welcome to CSR!

Thank you for your reply. No, not yet hooked up. Just received last night from Amazon. That is more or less my plan. The moment I know that the source is pushing signal through, I should be able to identify what is working and what's not and can take it from there. Also, not super easy to work in the head compartment at 6'5" and 270lbs......ugggh!

You can take a mobile music source and RCA x what ever end fits the music source, and pump music right into the amp's RCA inputs. Power the stereo on and see what you get. This take the head unit RCA's to it, out of the loop, leaving the amp and speakers.

White noise at least indicates the voice coils are intact. Says the amp is at least powered on and sending something out.

Thank you very much! I will definitely try that. Although I believe there are a bunch of Amps underneath the seat back. I guess it means each Amp powers a couple of speakers, so I would have to try each one of them to test them?
