Okoboji Iowa

Markmann,

Hello fellow Iowan!
Parks Marina at Okoboji has transient slips. A limited number however so make your reservations well in advance!
Parks is a first class operation. The slips are under roof and with full hook-ups. Also showers, convenience store, and laundry on location.
Okobiji is fantastic boating with many other local attractions.
Here is their URL:

Thanks for the information. The website looks wonderful. I am looking forward to Okoboji. Will the water be warm in June?

Marckmann,

Okoboji is a spring fed lake and is over 100 ft. deep in some areas. It just depends on how warm the weather has been but typically the water temps would still be cool for most folks in June. If june has to be the month, make it as late in the month as you can for the best enjoyment.
The lake is extemely clean. Your boat will probably come out of the water cleaner than when it went in.
We are going to try to get up there a couple of times next year. I can't wait, its going to be a very LONG winter!

P.S., one more noteworthy topic. Starting in 2006 Okoboji has a 25 MPH speed limit after sunset. The water patrol really enforces this one so watch your speed after dark!

Yours in boating,

Jim

Marckmann,

Yep, just moved from the 100 dock over to 415 this year. We splashed the boat last Friday.
My wife is going to be out of town so I will be on the boat all weekend.
Stop on by and have a beer!

Cheers,

Jim

I made the long trip up the river from Saylorville on Sunday. It was great. We almost made it to Boone. The ledges was wonderful.

I recommend the trip--we only had to slow down a few times when the water was less than 10 feet deep. This flood has at least one good aspect.

Also--I never know what speed I am going--my speedometer isn't working. It never reads more than 10 mph.

Does that apply in the winter? Last time I was there, we had to drill through the water to find fish. If you didn't like your spot, you couldn't just cast in another direction, you had to drill another hole! Then, after we finally found the fish, we took 'em to a local store where the guy cleaned 'em for us while I tried to find my feet. I can normally tell where they are, but after 10 hours out on that lake, they all but disappeared.

Great memories. My brother-in-law is insane. On the other hand, maybe I was right about my sister all those years. The middle of a frozen lake can seem very warm at times.

I live in Spencer, just south of Okoboji 15 miles. Okoboji is my main lake for boating.

I am pretty sure you dont want to drive over 25 on the ice in the winter. Might bounce around a bit from the ice ridges!!

Finally good to see some people here from the great state of Iowa. Saylorville lake....I have heard it is nice, but never been there.

Everytime I want to say the name Lake Okeechobee, I have to stop and think about it. Half the time I get Okoboji or Okeechobee wrong, or backwards, or mixed up or something.

John, I wouldn't put anything past our DNR! The group that patrols the Iowa Great Lakes is the ticket happiest bunch I have ever seen.

Sounds like you have the same in-laws that I do....

Mike, it normally is pretty nice and we have a great marina facility. But,...You wouldn't think much of it right now. We are 54 feet above normal pool. The marina which is normally in a very protected area is now basically in open water. Our docks and boats are getting the crap knocked out of them every time the wind comes up. Also the lake is absolutly a floating lumber yard. It's going to be a very loooong summer.
