Hello guys and gals,

I have spent the past few months looking at some new electronics and I have decided on what I want to go with. I am going to install a Raymarine E7D. I want an all in one unit so I can get rid of the three separate screens I have now and use my tablet and plan trips and also control my Fusion stereo. I also like the Raymarine apps which I can use on my tablet. I think a single screen will be perfect for me to see depth, chart, and other info. My problem is I want to replace the existing transducer from my Lowrance unit with the new transducer for the Raymarine. How do I decide which degree, type, ect. I know I want a through hull because that is what I am replacing. Any and all incite appreciated.

(Well, I see that I still cant spell correctly!)

Your choice of transducer is limited to RM E7 compatible units, If all you want is basic depth and temp go with the basic low profile B60 series, if you want to add speed then use one of the fairing block models (a 0 degree transducer with angled mounting block). The angle for the transducer is determined by the dead rise angle of the boat, and the location of the existing transducer. Deadrise angle refers to the angle between horizontal and the hull vee at the transom. If the existing transducer is at the rear of the boat under an engine, choose a transducer equal to the published deadrise angle of your hull. If the existing transducer is say right on the center of the keel in front of the engines go with a 0 degree angle ducer.

You may want to have the transducer professionally installed where you are replacing the old transducer. Someone who has done enough of these will be able to tell if fiberglass work will be needed to make the old hole the proper size for your new transducer. If you were installing in a new hole, I'd say buy a couple new hole saws and have at it.
