OK let's hear about it.

That was the exact situation I had, that started my uphill climb in boat lengths. (same port even) We had a 23' Weekender, which the admiral swore was big enough, and we didn't need to move up in size....ever. Then we met Lake Erie, and had our exercise just like yours, taking several waves over the bow and having the bimini canvas ripped off. She spent the journey in the cabin with three life jackets on.

The next week we had a 270 DA.

Funny you say that. Our experience is how I was able to move up to our 400!

It was Friday morning July 2nd and I was running to a beach in a harbor about 40 minutes from our home port. We approached the entrance to the harbor and cut inside the red can just as I had probably 30 times before. There was a 50' full keel Catalina sailboat about 1/4m inshore from me and probably another 5 boats of all sizes running inside the red can in the same general direction I was headed so it didn't even dawn on me to look at my MFD. Unfortunately that day I was going through there at DEAD low tide and it was a full moon so it was about 1ft lower than usual. All of a sudden BAM, I could feel the boat lift a bit and just as I looked back both outdrives kicked up. I quickly checked the bilge for damage and leaks and was all good in there. Once I knew we where not sinking I accessed the damage.

I had hit a lone rock pile with just the outdrive, I later find out I didn't even hit the keel of the V at all, not a scratch on it. I had trashed both forward props on the Bravo IIIs (brand new 4 blade hill marine props with about 5 hours on them) so we vibrated our way into the marina that is in the harbor we were just outside of. I called my father in law and he went to the large Merc dealer on the cape that had 2 original equipment 3 blade props in stock. 2 hours later we had the props on board and headed out to the sand bar to change them out. I check everything out on the outdrives, 1 skeg was completely missing, other one was trashed pretty bad, a little dent in one of the nose cones but other than that nothing apparent was damaged. Once we changed out the props all seemed well, no vibrations and boat seems to run well so we made the 40min run back to our home port. Used the boat for 2 weeks and all seemed good, no drive lube loss, no vibrations so we kept using the boat and being happy nothing more was damaged.

About a week later I got the 2 new 4 blade props from Hill Marine so that weekend I pull it up onto the beach to change out the props. I went to go tighten the back prop nut on the port side and the whole drive shifted to the left about 3". I thought, that is not good. I got my mask and looked and the gimbal yoke, the part that the drive rotates up and down on was missing a large chuck of aluminum. I was about 30 min away from port so we took a nice slow right back on the starboard engine. I had the boat hauled and had the gimbal yoke changed out. I had them drain the drives to check the lube and although it seemed a little dark, they said it was ok. I never got to see it for myself. Boat went back in the water and we where off to Newport and Block island for a week. It is a 1.5hr run to Newport from my home port and when I backed off the throttle outside Newport harbor both drives sounded like a bag of marbles. Obviously it was from the rock strike but I didn't know how bad the damage was and how far I could get without full failure so we stayed in Newport a few days, skipped Block Island and then I had a 7hr tow back to my home port. Boat got pulled, both outdrives had 10-15 teeth broken on the gears.
Insurance company told me to do what ever it takes to fix it, no adjuster would come look at the damage so I told the marina to declare the drives totaled and order 2 brand new drives. They bolted them up 2 days later and I was on my way. It was a long ordeal but in the end I have 2 new drives and only lost 1 weekend of boating. It didn't go so well for my insurance company. Almost $20,000 worth of damage and towing and they covered it all but my $1000 deductible. I had asked the marina for my old drives back and sold those on craigslist for parts for $700 so I was only out $300.

Human got a couple lolhow about cruising in my home waters about 10 minutes away from my marina. Early season about late March 2014. No markers are out yet they go in April 1st. Not paying attention to were I am doing about 25 mph I ran aground. Dead stop in about 5 ft. Water was about ankle to knee deep. Coast guard watched the entire thing. Pretty embarrassing. Had 6 people on board one person took a dive to the cabin door when I hitand cut her forehead pretty good. No sstitches tho. Boat us couldn't get me off the bar so I had to step off the boat and walk my anchor out into deeper water and leave the boat for 2 days till we had a full moon abd the tide came up high enough to float her. Then the worst part. Boat us couldn't get anywhere near us so clothing came off abd in the freezing cold water I went. Made 2 trips in chest high water to carry the 2 girls to the boat us boat. I was numb by the time I got myself on board. The guys walked themselves abd off we went. Boat shows up at marina 2 days later, hauled fixed and dropped back in in less theb a week abd my bill was 3200 two props recon, and 2 r udders straightened abd reinstalled.

South shore of Long Island is a ***** isn't it... Where abouts did you get jammed up?

The big sand bar just north of Jones inlet. Just north or Reynolds channel about 1/4 mile before going under the bridge. U knew the big sand bar that everybody walls on at low tide lol. My item stupidity nothing more nothing less

My two worst days are as follows... bought a new motor from Cummins and only after 13hrs it imploded. Day 2, after a year of fighting on who would pay for the fix, the 2nd motor did the same but only with 3hrs and with more damage...we are going to see how day 3 goes....splash down is in 3 weeks.

Landed on my buddy Gary's foot. A normal person would have been traumatized by all the blood, but Gary had been through it before. We were about to...
open our 8th beer of the day and head over to the beach front bar for breakfast/brunch. I told Gary to rinse the blood off his foot by dangling it in the water off the swim platform as we blasted through the anchorage on our way to the bar

We didn't even realize our pet pig was still in the dinghy that was tied to the bow with a 6 foot line...

Until I used the dinghy for a fender to keep us from ramming the dock as the stern wave generated from coming off plane coming into the dock was pushing us into the pilings and I heard al this squealing...

"Do Over"...this will explain that....first boat EVER....'93 Chris Craft 342 Cruiser....out on a gorgeous Saturday....brothers birthday, sister and niece are in town.....7 souls on board. We had gone up the lake to a cove about 10 miles from our dock and were just chillin when we decided to run back down toward our Marina to check out another arm of the lake. We're motoring along and all of a sudden I hear this weird noise and the starboard motor stops....shut everything down and go back and look at the stern.....can't see anything but I'm in the channel and stopped (not where you want to be on LOTO). I motor over to a cove on my starboard side on just the port motor...get anchored...go back to the stern again (I had a tube tied on the swim platform and thought it had come loose).....swim platform is now UNDER water. I move everyone and pull up the motor covers....water in the bilge up to the spark plugs....my brother starts bailing and I'm on the cell to Boats.us. Boats.us are 14 miles away... it'll take me 45 minutes to get there....10 minutes later the boats down in 27' of water....I had gotten everyone off and stepped off the boat as the stern was going under. Boats.us got there along with the Water Patrol.....took out statements and Boatsus took everyone but my brother and myself back to our marina. EVERYTHING we had at the lake was on the boat....keys.wallets, glasses, phones,my wedding ring (it was in a drawer below) clothes.....my brother and I waited there for 7 hours while they raised the boat.

oh yeah....bellows had broke....the one they DIDN'T replace when I had the boat gone over.

total loss....so..."Do Over"

I think you win!

We were anchored in the river channel at the Lake of the Ozarks watching the offshore boat races. Anchored in about 100 feet of water, almost the length of my anchor. Area was a no wake zone during the races.
I was tied off to a 310DA.
From the west, we could see a storm moving in. We began to untie and separate when all hell broke loose. Every boat took off wide open. Water Patrol could do nothing.
One of our ropes had stretched the knot in the rope and the other owner could not get it untied. I was trying to raise my anchor, but it was stuck. The 3 to 4 foot rolling waves from all the other boats hit us and threw his bow up on top of my bow rails. After bending them badly, my boat went down and my bow pulpit went through his port porthole. Destroyed it. My anchor rope proceeded to snag, and I lost my anchor and about 95 feet of anchor rope.
It could have been worse, no fiberglass damage.
Last boat race I have attended.

I couldn't move my arms and legs. I felt like they had been pulled every which way in an attempt to tear them from my body. I hurt from my toes all the way to the top of my head and I kept hearing this strange sound in my mind. All I could think of was a witchcraft sort of a chant from somewhere in the Caribbean. I finally managed to drag my body out of bed. When I walked to the bathroom and looked at myself in the mirror I was surprised to see.....

I remembered that Gary was still passed out on the swim platform. By this time the blood from his foot had attracted recently introduced piranha, and when I pulled his limb from the water...

Theah was some o' tham sucka's just a suckin' away on his ol' foot. Ya see deese aren't them kinda piranha that chews your arse inta itty bitty pieces. Deese are da kinda piranha dat just sux da blood right smack outa da body.

But I got Gary's foot....

Or what was left of it and tried to stick it back on with some duct tape. But this wasn't the wierdest thing I saw.....
