Hey folks- looking for opinions. I changed my oil today during winterizing. i have a 99 215 Express with a carborated 305. I have been using Quicksilver sinthetic blend 25w40. I mistakenly bought a gallon of 25w50 and a quart of 25w40. So now I have 4 quarts of 25w50 and 1quart of 25w40 in the boat now. I didn't realize until after the job was completed I mixed the oil weights. Should I just run it in the spring or should I change it? Pressure seamed fine when I ran it on the hose and muffs.

Mixing 1qt with the 4 should not cause a problem - the difference between 40/50 is minimal. I have done that and even mixed 1qt of Dino with synthetic blend - not regularly but to use up an odd qt. I guess my question is are these both Mercury oils? I thought all their 4 cycle oil was 25w40?

I am like Bill...if they are not both Merc oils, I would change and I did not know Merc made a 25w-50. It likely would be OK, but if different oils, it would bug me....

Yes, they are both Quicksilver synthetic blends. The 25W50 gallon container looks exactly like the 25W40 which is why I mistakingly picked it up and used it. On the back label its says its formulated for high performance engines (which my little old 305 is far from). I always thought even the 25W40 was a heavy viscosity so, 50 weight had me even more concerned. i just don't want to starve the valve train, cam, and lifters with a more heavy viscosity oil than necessary. I guess it will be fine. I am just gonna run it in the spring.
