Can anyone tell me what the ideal oil pressure would be on a 1978 26DA with a 350? both idle speed pressure and crusing speed pressure would be great.

Thanks,

Chris

4-5 psi at idle. 30-60 psi at 2000 rpms and above.

im running above 75 closer to 80psi between 3000-3400rpm. Any likely cause of this? Should I be worried? I know low pressure normally means not enough oil. I have no idea the cause of high pressure. Oil level is normal and the oil is fine in color and consistency.

Thanks,

Chris

I had a similar situation and changed the pressure sensor on the engine. Low and behold the pressure dropped to 45 psi at running speed and around 10 at idle. Test the pressure sender

Sorry kind of new at this...Where would this pressure sender be located and what does it look like?

Thanks,

Chris

You need to try a REAL pressure guage and see what it really is. If you plan to plum in a new real pressure guage, use copper tube, nut nylon.

Electric senders / guages are not accurate.

I agree my starboard runs 10-15 when idoling but the port runs 35-45,at speed starboard is around 35 and port is 50-60.That is with a new sender on starboard side ,which brought up the reading on the dash by 10psi.also thats with fresh oil changes the same day.I think the guages and senders are only to show there is pressure and the older the more innacurate.
