Oil leak in bilge 2007 AJ stumped

I suspect my remote oil drain hose from bottom of oil pan to transom plug is leaking. I want to eliminate the hose and plug up drain hole. Then, of course, change oil through dipstick. Can I remove the existing drain hose and put in a plug without pulling out engine? I have a single MERCRUISER 6.2 bravo 3. Thanks boys!!

just as long as you can reach the bottom of the pan to unscrew it and install a standard plug
