I just noticed oil in the bilge after the boat having been sitting for two weeks unused. My oil level is also down. Anyone with suggestions for what to check next? The engine doesn't seem to be burning any oil while running.

Thanks!

Rusted oil pan is another one. Start by taking a good look around (mirror on a stick will help) as it might end up being obvious. If not, you've got to clean everything up and then keep a short eye on things. Meaning, top off the oil then first see if it's leaking right back out (pan or dip tube). Then run the engine for a few minutes, shut off and check again. Continue adding time in short increments till you find it.

On the port side of the 454 towards the back low down well under the manifold you will find a pressure relief system that has the oil lines coming into (black rubber lines). The bottom is plastic and takes a large socket. On my engines it was slightly loose. I tightened it and the leaking oil problem stopped.

Hello. I have also noticed oil in my bilge. My mechanic said that some oil may get through and it's not abnormal. He also said oil might be coming from a really hard spot to get to where we would have to dry dock it and take the engine out. He said we can wait til the end of season and as long as the oil isn't like flowing out we can wait it out and still use the boat. Is this normal?

It's not normal to have oil leaking into the bilge but if its only a few drops and not getting worse I would wait until the end of the season. Of course, monitor your oil level even more than usual.

If you drop in a couple of bilge pads you should be able to pinpoint the source quickly if it is not already obvious.

Yes thats what I will do. I can tell the oil seems to be coming from the really back part.

All this below can I access this without having to take the engine out? I apologize if my questions are not so good. This is my first boat in my life and I'm only starting to learn. Thanks Everbody.

Oil pan gasket.
Timing cover gasket.
Rear main seal.
Valve cover gaskets.
Oil filter gasket.
Oil cooler lines.
Remote oil filter lines.
Etc, etc.

The boat is a 2006 Searay 320... They are the 350 mercruiser horizons stern drive.

I wonder how much is potentially cost to fix to dry dock it, pull the motor and fix it?
