Anyone use one of these oil changing pumps. How do you like it?

Use it and like it a lot.....and so do our slip neighbors and other boating buddies, since I loan it out to all of them.

Yea, I thought when I get one that is what is going to happen. I heard it is best to warm up the engine first as it make the oil easier to pull through the dip stick.

Yes, warm them up, but more than just idling at the dock. Take her out for a spin, put her up on plane, let them heat up (put some stress on the engines), bring her back, then use the pump. From my experience, idling 15-20 minutes, even though up to water temperature, does not heat up the oil enough.

Ok.. now that we have a endorsement, can you tell us the name / cost / link to purchase? I think I need one of those..

Got ours at West Marine on sale. I think it was around $99, 2-3 years ago.

For what it's worth
The "oil boy" works wellalso and doesn't require power. Either way be prepared to lend it out!

I have the Tempo Oil Boy it works good through the dipstick. I just always feel like I'm not getting all the oil out.

I used it on the old boat. On this boat I had the dealer install the oil pan quick drain hose kit when they had the engine out. I'd like to get the electric pump set-up or build one with a pump and a 5 gallon bucket with lid, so I can connect the hose walk away while it pumps and spend time cursing at why the @$%#$#F#@%#%$@ the oil filter aways is so hard to get off while it oozes

I am not convinced I get all of the oil out through the dipstick either. When I pour the used oil into the new oil empty jugs they never fill up.

I push and move the tube around a lot while it's pumping hoping to "find" all of the oil.

I use the manual pump above, (moeller) and noticed that it auto shuts off before the oil pan is empty and I have to empty the container, then re-connect for the final 8-10 oz. when it gets everything, you should hear the slurping and can see the color change in the tube.

5.7 L small blocks.

Exactly same experience....There is a float that hits a relief valve so you don't overfill the container.
When all else fails, as Todd mentioned, the quick-drain works great

I always hear the slurp and see the oil starting to thin out in the tube. IMHO this does not mean all the oil is out though; it just means the oil is out at the end of the tube in the pan. There can always be more oil in the pan.

Well I went out at lunch time and bought it. It was $139, not on sale. My marina has the Mercury synthetic blend oil, so I will do both engines over the weekend.

Did it last weekend! I used the oil boy listed above, and formerly used the Topsider Oil changer. This new one is much better!

I agree, you can't get it all out, but flipping the boat over and waiting for it to drain is not an option! One thing I know I am going to do is put remote filters on over the winter. My last boat had them, and it made an oil change a 20 min procedure... This boat, made it a 20 swear word/busted knuckle per engine procedure!

What product did you use and does it bolt right up to the existing Merc location?
