I just bought a 2005 Sea ray Amberjack with twin 5.7 300 HP. The boat came all winterize But the oil looks old so I want to change it. Here is my question Should I start the boat and un winterize the engine to warm it up as per the forum, Or should I just wait until the spring. CanI just change the oil. I will be changing the oil and transmission fluid

Do it now. There are plenty of threads on this, if you'd like to read the discussions.

Other than the oil being thicker (and taking longer to drain), there's no reason you can't change it w/o warming it up.

You could heat the engine compartment up first, if you wanted to.

Hell of a delema you got there Sparky600.

Heres what stinks about it.

Suck the oil out of the sump with out running and all you've done in change the oil in the sump. You still have that skanky oil working on the soft metals of your lower end bearings.

Warm the engine up a little to get particles in suspension, change oil and filter, run the engine a little to get fresh oil on lubricated parts for good storage protection ... well you gota get her running for that.

Engine oil will protect for a time. But when its ability to neutralize acids get to low is when problems start.

If it were me, and the oil was black, I would definatly do it. If the oil was a light carmel I would leave if. ...Ron

I believe, your boat was a repo. I would assume the oil was not maintained properly toward the end. I would drain it and replace it. But I would also replace the oil filter.

Yep! If your unsure and especially if it is a repo, I would start it and get it changed. I decided not to change mine as it is still caramel in color, and I keep the engine room heated during the winter. I change it right before the next season starts and always use synthetic.
