Ohio train derailment

Very strange that I only saw this on the news this morning. I would have thought it would have made head lines a lot sooner then this. Sad state of affairs when the news can't report on real news instead of some political view.
It's forgotten America. You know the smelly people that go to Wal Mart, eat at Olive Garden, and cling to their guns and religion. The elites don't give a crap.

Still the cloud of chemicals should have been made known sooner so that people can have a chance. It's too late now and the repercussions will be for years to come.

They did evacuate a 1 mile radius a day or so after it happened but that stuff likely blew for miles. My mother is 4.5 miles away from it.
As far as GTF...where would we go? I'm 12.5 miles away. I work from home but my wife works so we can't go 100 miles away for an extended period. All family lives within about a 20 mile radius of the site so even going to stay with them wouldn't help.

So far my mother hasn't seen any issues at her house. We had a chlorine smell here a few nights ago but only lasted a short time and my sore throat today but likely just cause of the weather.

All of the creeks and streams coming from that area dump into the Beaver River, which is where our marina is. The Beaver then dumps into the Ohio about 1/4 mile past our marina so wonder if we see a bunch of dead fish floating around this summer?

In fact, if you look at my signature pic look just behind the arch of the Bayliner behind me. That is the Ohio and that is the bank in Monaca, PA

Sorry, the immature Bevis and Butthead in my laughed at this...

You assume they care. They don't.

I guess that was my point in stating any of this. To your point they don't care and I never assumed that they did. Only shocked that it took two weeks to put this catastrophe on the air in a 30sec. blurb. ...

Actually, after thinking about it, it is worse than they don't care. They actually want those types of people dead. That's how much they despise them. Just look at the lack of fentanyl enforcement.

To their credit they evacuated a 1 mile radius almost immediately but 1 mile isn't near enough. Also, the decision to ignite the chemicals purposely was made by the train company and their priority seemed to be to get the tracks functional again. Within a day or so they had the tracks repaired and trains using it again while the burned cars and chemicals were still all over the place.
Fire departments are complaining that their gear, hoses, etc are all contaminated and they have no funds to replace them. I'm sure their is insurance but I guess this was an immediate concern that may have been resolved now. But apparently the railroad wasn't working very well with them. The East Palestine mayor seems to have been doing a great job and promises to do all he can to hold them accountable but he even said, I'm mayor of a town of 4700 people, I can't fight a railroad corporation.

My wife just said the chatter on Facebook says Erin Brokovich has been contacted. There was also a lady that posted she contacted the railroad and they sent out a toxicologist and he told her her house was uninhabitable and that they would pay first month, last month and security deposit on a new place. Seemed to her like hush money cause they wanted her to move on and she was being vocal. The railroad has told all others they are safe so she is bringing this to the public as to why they are telling everyone around her they are fine. This is just the beginning unfortunately. Wife said they posted there are 3500 dead fish in the area too.

There was also a lady that posted she hired a 3rd party company to come in and they told her her house was uninhabitable and the train company offered her a settlement but I guess the company hired by the train company told her everything was fine. Apparently she posted pics of the 3rd party report. This is just the beginning unfortunately. Wife said they posted there are 3500 dead fish in the area too.

I wouldn't get too excited about Erin Brokovich. She visited my town back in 2017 when PFAS/PFOA was new, exciting and potentially lucrative. She's only coming to your town for one reason - to recruit for whichever law firm has offered her a "consulting fee" to come in and scare you into immediately signing on with their lawyers. The firm with the most people signed on has the best chance at leading the litigation when it all eventually gets combined in court. There's big money to be made here.

With as much attention as you're getting now, picking a lawyer may well end up a moot point anyway. Passive inclusion in a mass/class action lawsuit seems like a probable outcome.

For your consideration - believe nothing you see on facebook from neighbors and "friends down the street" :) There is no way...no way...the train company would ever offer a "settlement" to anyone so quickly. Not a chance. The path to corporate liability is paved with years of litigation and high priced lawyers. Not some dude walking door to door with a checkbook in his hand. And that third party that was allegedly hired to declare a house "uninhabitable" probably just scammed that homeowner out of her hard earned money.

Not trying to be a negative nancey...but..:)

I edited my post after watching the video but must have been after you read it. It wasn't a 3rd party. I watched the video of her talking with the mayor at the ton hall. It was the railroad company representative that offered her rent money. Apparently she was showing the report to the mayor in the video.

This looks a lot like "Love Canal Light" or "Times Beach Take Two".
I'd be willing to put some money down that in five years this is a huge cancer cluster.

Let's hope it's Norfuckup and Southern that gets stuck with the bill and not us taxpayers this time.
