Ohhh no ! 7.4l merc inboard

So upon launching last weekend I fired up the motors at the launch dock. I thoroughly went through guages looked at hoses in bildge for leaks ect ect. All the usuall stuff. I look around and see a lot and I mean a lot of white colored smoke, steam commoing from starboard exhaust. Temp guage was normal cause hadnt been running long. But the exhaust tubes were extremely hot. Thinking I Lost my impellor or have a blockage.
 
Seacocks open and strainers clear? Any water at all coming out of the exhaust?
 
Seacocks were open. Upon startup I watched for the pink winterizer to fpow out which it did. By the time I Shut it down I couldnt see any flow.
 
Motors are not fogged at winterization. We dnt bother with fogging with closed cooling .
 
I to have a closed system, I fog every year to protect my valves. Neighbor has a 34' with twins, the PO didn't fog one year, one valve got stuck and broke a pushrod.

Before going to the impeller, take the top off the strainer basket and open the seacock. If your getting flow there then move on to the impeller. When was the last time they were changed? Check the belt tension, then I would head into the impeller.

It it could be as simple as what fourthsearay said, it lost its prime.
 
I don't understand the theory behind not having to FOG a closed cooling motor. Closed cooling has nothing to do with the intake or combustion track.
 
Fogging has nothing to do with closed vs. open cooling. Fogging is to protect intake valves, cylinders, rings, from corrosion.
 
I knew that, I was asking why original poster said they don't bother fogging cause they have closed cooling..(sends up a red flag don't it)
 
Fogging is over rated, not needed for a 6 month layup. Been doing this for a really long time with absolutely no issues
