Was lucky to find mechanic in Rock Hall with CAT knowledge. Found the problem immediately, a wire fell off the fuel cut off selinoid. I feel sooo stupid! But all is well that ends well. Will now carry a spare aboard.
Anyone know how to change one? Any special tools needed?
Thanks all for your help.

sweet! Cat does have a tool, we used it to pull it during the overhead. I’m sure you can buy it separate from that (very expensive) kit

Engine dies then won't restart.
Only ten minutes after refueling started to go on plane, on engine sync, engines got to about 2500 rpm then suddenly felt like we were dragging something, pulled throttles back and shifted to neutral. In panic I may have shifted too quickly out of grear. Also believe I shut off both engines. It happened so quickly we will never know. Anyway the port engine started right up. Starboard cranked quickly but would not restart. Got back to slip and:
Switched supply tanks
Changed racor fuel selection
Replace run relay in box top of engine.
Still cranks but no start.
Any suggestions most appreciated!
12 volt relay in the electrical box at the head of the engine fixed my similar issue.

No need to feel stupid, the craziest s**t happens to all of us. Group is pretty good at diagnosing things.

Now I just wish they would come over and do all the work!

Any ideas or suggestions welcome! Cat 3126. Flip switch on starboard engine, oil pump alarm sounds as normal, I hear the fuel solinoid click on, when I push the switch forward nothing happens. Suspecting maybe bad switch? Throttles def In neutral.

Where can I get a pair of fuel supply hoses made? Unfortunately, when the starboard Caterpillar 3116 engine was rebuilt, they removed the two hoses shown in the picture (port engine shown) and lost them.

The one hose is shown with an orange trace and the other yellow.

A Parker shop can fix them up in a jiffy.

did you try using emergency start.
Yes, to no avail. While swapping the switches, the port one fell apart. I though for sure that would be the issue, but no luck after swapping switches. Going over later today to begin troubleshooting hopefully can get a new switch from MarineMax… ordered the original from flounder pounder, but I’m impatient…

The dash switch bodies should be VM4J-1, about $20 each at Flounder Pounder. They have a min order and no free shipping, so if you need other switches, good time to order them.

It sound like it could be the Start Relay or the Starter Motor Magnetic Switch. You’ll probably need the control box schematic to diagnose. Advise if you need that.

The relay is a standard automotive relay available at any auto parts house (don’t remember exact part but it’s printed on the relay) The Magnetic switch is CAT part # 3E- 7276. Ask me how I have that memorized…

Thank dt for the response, I’ve ordered a replacement switch, have the schematic. Still in the zip log bag inside the box, heading over to the boat in a few

Any hydraulic hose shop can make them up.

Thanks for the links. Pulled the lines off the Port engine and took them to Benz Hydraulics on Saturday (open till Noon).
Made them up for me as I waited. Decided to get lines made for both engines, since I was already there.
Diesel rated with the USCG stamp on the lines.

Thanks again for the quick advice. This forum is like money in the bank.

I had the exact problem happen to me last summer.
