OFFICIAL - 450DA Owner's Thread****

I had to really scrub my sump box. I don't think the elder couple I bought the boat didnt know it was their. It had an inch of mold around it. Also the plastic lid has duct tape holding it together. so during the winter have to make a new one. it has two teirs. the float is on the higher level??
add an access port...

Float is on the higher end, so that the sump pump should always remain primed.

As some of you know, I'm actively shopping for a galley to port 450 DA

There's the base 3116 vs. the optional 3126.

I've read all the posts from FW and other esteemed Forum members regarding fuel burn GPH and I've even charted them right off the CAT data sheets. The elusive number that is needed is SPEED @ cruise RPM for each engine. Although the 3116 burns a bit less fuel per hour, the proof in the pudding is distance traveled at cruise per gallon burned.

I am posting the GPH & torque charts below.

Can anyone help me with speed over ground numbers so I can really dial this in?

BEST !

I just sold my 450 3 weeks ago. I had the 420hp 3126s. I liked to cruise at 2200 rom, turbos weren’t screaming. I achieved 22-24 mph sog. On trips, I could count on approx 1mpg and 1gph for the generator.

Statute or Nautical miles MPG/SOG ?

Replaced all screens and gaskets for port windows. Some of them were so cooked from the sun they just fell apart. I also installed a moen facet in the galley. It came with a soap dispenser. The neck of the facet is retractable.

Looks great, Where did you purchase the replacement screens & gaskets?

Some people say it's close to John Deere red, but I don't think it's that close. Real Westebeke can be bought online

I had it color matched by a local automotive paint shop. It is Torch Red used on pick-up's from '52 thru the late 50's and then off and on in later years under various color codes. Automotive paints will dull and lose their gloss uhnless you use the correct hardener and reducer so this is a bit more complicated unless you can find torch Red put up in rttle cans by a paint company like Duplicolor. I chose to buy the paint in pints and mix it accordingly with hardner and reducer then spray it with Preval sprayers as I needed it. The paint usually has a pretty long shelf-life if you prevent it from freezing.

and……….. Here is the answer to your next question: The white used by Caterpillar is mixed for them and is called Matterhorn White. We had it color matched and found it to a perfect match for 1990 Nissan Axxes Paris White with color code "KH5". It also requires a hardner and the correct reducer to get it to spray and not get dull when it cures.

Well, I've been on a few 450's now and seen a gazillion photographs.

Lots of boats have the ever popular SEA DECK type of product on the cockpit floor - I get it.

Looks great, reasonably easy to clean.

Just wondering why is the snap in cockpit "carpet" is so very popular?

Seems like a nuisance to keep clean, plus if not sealed properly, those holes in the deck could be a pathway for water into the core.

On top of that , one gets to wash the sand out of the carpet AND the cockpit floor.

Kids, dogs, spills, sand, I'm sure there's a good reason but I don't see it.

Hopefully someone will share.

Not a 450 but this snap in "carpet" has been in this 390 for over 5 years and it looks new, has no stains and doesn't hold water. I just bought the boat and I was figuring on Aquatrac or Sea Deck as a replacement but now I'm happy with this. I don't know the brand/company. It's like a woven material you'd find on a pool lounge chair just thicker.
