Official 380 Thread

Are you still in need of canvas? I know a guy that has a full factory set from Sea Ray in tan with isenglass and everything. Never been installed. Looking to move it.
Do you happen to know if the 380 canvas is still available?

Has anyone ever tried snaking a wire above cabin headliner from one side of boat to the other? Im looking to do so without dropping the vinyl headliner. There must be a way to do so. Any suggestions? thanks

The only way to replace 1999-2004 380 canvas is to have it custom made. It can not be ordered anywhere. I tried everything for a long time and finally had it made. I made some changes and am very happy with the outcome.Good luck.

This isn't about a problem, it is a quibble and a solution. We raft up a lot and it seems that our life jackets and towels become community property...which isn't really even a quibble unless we are specifically looking for one. Historically, the rear hatch area has been the collecting point for lifejackets...drumroll...until now.

We took the forward bulkhead storage cabinet, cleaned it out and put up a hanger rod (about $10 from Home Depot). Full size hangers fit, and all but the largest lifejackets stay off the floor. The idea now is that the personal lifejackets for the crew will stay on hangers in the storage area, and will return to the storage area. A mass of lifejackets of various sizes and colors will stay in the rear hatch area for general use (jetskis, island floating...whatever) but our favorites will stay separated where we can find them. (The coax cable in the picture is the run from the refrigerator, through the bulkhead, up the arch and over to the ice chest area...I haven't tacked it back yet but it is on the list.)

Camper or Sling Back Canvas???

I'd like to get some feed back from those of you that have camper canvas on their 380's. I have the sling back and am strongly considering a change to camper. What would you change if you could?? Do you have insect screens?
"A Little Nauti" it does not appear in your pic that you have vertical support on the aft corners...doesn't seem possible??
Do you have an aft bimini to which the camper was added or is it full camper arch to aft?? Lastly on the eisenglas openings(windows) roll up or roll down??

Any other recommendations would be appreciated. I will be getting exterior sun screens all around.

My screens are sewed in and windows roll up. I also have roll-up covers for all the windows. Great for keeping the sun out during the week, or for privacy. I also have vertical supports in the aft corners. After I had mine made, all the 380's in my marina followed suit. It doesn't look as nice as a slope back, but it adds a lot of space, as we spend 3 to 4 days a week on it during the summer.

We put a ton of thought and design into the cantilever camper cover. We use the boat as three separate areas...a front deck for sunning, a rear deck for hanging out, and the salon for AC. With that in mind, the extended bimini for the camper was a no brainer. The thought was that we wanted the corners free for visibility and access, and yet wanted enough strength that the top would withstand a serious pounding if we took her to the Bahamas. (I'll be happy to provide detailed pictures if you like). I did get panels made that are screens, but I can only use one or the other. I didn't like the "eyes" on our boat (although it looks good on some...I'm not sure what it is) and in our climate, it really wasn't that big a deal. My Eisenglass stays up until the next couple of weeks, then is gone for the next seven months. If I had it to do over again, I might add hanger straps to roll up the panels and leave them, but the Only Mate didn't like the look...and I was outvoted, 1-1.

You 380 owners must be much more well heeled or don't leave the dock (all the tV install posts) compared to we 320 owners since I could find no mention of fuel usage data!:smt043Seriously, I am looking at a 2001 380 with CAT 3126 diesels and wondered if anyone could provide some typical cruising fuel consumption numbers?

BTW, Pseudomind, I did see some water in the engine room with the boat on land by the bilge pumps like you described on your boat in some of the initial posts on this thread.

I think we are all painfully resigned to roughly .75/.80 mpg at 3500 rpm (with the gas 8.1s) and the TV's help us forget. (I thought somewhere I heard a 20% improvement from diesels-closer to 1 mpg in the sweetspot, but experts will chime in).

Edit: but now I read that its more like a 50% improvement at the sweetspot...geez.

I am looking into replacing my canvas with a similar canteliver design. One canvas guy I talked said it couldn't be done.. Do have any pictures of your setup I can show him?

This is a 380DA-D with the 3116 motors from boat test....YMMV....

Dom,
Thanks for the data which is about what I was expecting. Those numbers are much better than my 320 with 3 tons or so more boat to push through the water.

RE: Camper vs Sling BacK

Thanks for your input jedijd.
Met with the canvas man over the w/e. We are leaning towards the "traditional" camper , aft vertical supports, with eisenglas/bug screens on port and starboard (no smilyes) that will zipper roll down. Aft will have roll down eisenglas.

Aft vertical bracket forward leg will be in the middle of the gunwale to allow max interior space (approx 11 ft side to side). Being in FL, screen (textra) I will also have sun screens (textra) all around.

I will be putting my used beige existing canvas on e-bay when the job is finished unless someone from Cub Sea Ray is interested in it.

I bet it looks spectacular! Post some pics!

I'm a little late to this party but here's the info that you're looking for. I just ran my boat back from winter storage yesterday with new props cruising at 24.6 knots @ 2400 burning 26 GPH on Floscans.

Quite proud of those cruising numbers...... aren't we?
